Hi ttuuxxx,

I'm sure that it would add too much size to the 4.3.2 Fun Menu for the regular distribution. However, consider updating your superb gnome-games-lite_2.26.1-i486.pet so that it can be added.

Thanks,
Jim

Then I ran the network setup and set my wireless parameters, all OK tested browser, all OK.

Rebooted, started OK through to desktop.

However on shutdown the error appeared again. 3 fatal messages as sys not mounted.

I tried a reboot again and all ok to desktop but on shutdown again the message fatal and a new save screen claiming I'm running from live CD.

It seems that using the network wizard causes a problem in the pupsave at exit.
I cannot replicate this bug with my wired LAN, though. Everything I tried works nicely :D (except for aqualung not automatically starting to play any clicked-upon .mp3, have to click play in aq-lng, maybe just a feature :? :)). Been rebooting quite a few times without encountering this anomaly. Maybe :? , this could narrow it down to running wireless wizards.

I just tested briefly on my Eee 1005HA. No obvious issues for me. Zmixer does not work at all on the EeePc. I highly highly recommend switching to Retrovol.

With my full install i get the /sys not mounted fatal error also on shut down, everything else i have tried seems to function ok apart from the browser lockups. I have not experienced any since installing FF, i was very happy with SM until the crash.

Question on compatibilty etc. with programs

#205 Post by yaku runa »

First off I'm Glad Tuuxxx and Technosaurus are working together. Secondly, whoever put Dpup together did a great job. I have Dpup on an old Pentium 4 Dell inspiron 8200 and Dpup automatically detects drivers for PCMCIA USB 2.0 card as well as 3 different webcames including a Logitech, Microsoft, and Creative webcam.

So here is my question. Do I risk losing these great things by switching to 4.3.2 Beta? I'm tempted to test it and find out....

Also what PET and SFS repo is most compatible with this BETA version. Thanks to those who are doing this.

Cheers :-)

[Bug] In 4.3.1 GXine can't play Theora video :x. Here is some test video:
http://www.bigbuckbunny.org/
You can also use ffmpeg2theora to convert your videos into theora to test with.
http://v2v.cc/~j/ffmpeg2theora/index.html
Gxine can't also play ogg audio streams. Here is one:

Interesting bug........ connect to internet via WLAN using network wizard, all ok. Move to a different LAN, connect via cable using network wizard, and Seamonkey fails to use etho. Cannot make it connect no matter what I do.
4.3.1 SM1* does not do this, it uses whichever network it can find, automagically............

First tests V3

#209 Post by mawebb88 »

Just testing a fresh frugal install of 4.3.2v3. Most things look good.

One problem I had (same in 431 and derivatives e.g. Stardust) is that my WiFi router is not found in the scan using the default module(ath5k I think). It find other WEP's in my locality but not my WPA. So I had to resort as I have in 431 etc to NDis and some Windows drivers I found sometime ago on the net. No problem but would much prefer the native module to work. BTW in quirky-018 Barry's Simple Network wizard worked out of the box on the same hardware (Acer Aspire 5100) without the need to resort to Ndis.

Glad to see you have kept Pnethood. Those lame alternatives just do not work for me (i.e.finding shares on a Samba LANDisk)

Rgds Mike

V3 review. (Sorry it took so long, Work got in the way).

Still wont shut off unless I use ACPI=FORCE in GRUB. (I didn't know if you were going to change that).

Sound worked out of the box, but also worked with the update.

Even though I have a frugal install with a save file, V3 occasionally tries to create another save file. (It's the screen for saving from a live session).

Other than that It's running just fine. :D

Interesting............. in Seamonkey, go to preffs, advanced, proxy, and check the 'connect direct to internet' button to solve this.

ttuuxxx,
Thanks ever so much for taking on this 4.3.2 project. It is much needed. I have some updates that are appropriate for 4.3.2:

1. pup_event_backend_modprobe_fix_to_p43x-4.pet
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... h&id=27883

2. mwave_modem_fix_to_p4x-1.pet (minor script change to make it work)
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... h&id=26909

3. This is awaiting user confirmation that it has not regressed. So it might have to be fixed further - modem_fix_pack_delta-5-to-6.pet
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... h&id=27884

4. I discovered OverDrive's posting that apparently fixes the problem of the "filechooser" misplacing the window for selecting files and tried the packages. The problem seems solved with only the gtk package, although I initially tried both. Your call, whether it should go into 4.3.2 - gtk+-2.16.6-i486.pet
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 569#407569

5. The following file should be removed:
/etc/usb-modeswitch.conf (usb-hyphen, not usb-underscore, which is to be retained)

Comment: Since I missed seeing the normal puppy home page in SeaMonkey, I replaced it, specifying /usr/share/doc/home.htm as my homepage I also set it to show a blank page for new tabs. ...In case this helps others.

Please let me know, ttuuxxx, if there is any way I can assist in this 4.3.2 effort, as I feel strongly about the need for it. Beyond my continuing effort to improve modem support, that is.
Richard

NOTE: Please post any feedback about modems into the 3G-wireless thread:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... &start=510
or send me a PM. Thanks.

ttuuxxx,
I have the same problem as tlchost. I am Using a HP Pavilion PC a1213w-b with SIS Mirage2 Graphics. My favorite Puppy deriv is your 4.3.1.1 Main Xserver remaster, which I have to use in xvesa because xorg doesn't work on this computer, either. I won't be able to use 4.3.2 if I can't select screen resolution in xvesa.

Final report on the Dell laptop problem.

It's probably dizzy by now anyway having been rebooted so many times.

If I load just a basic frugal and create user settings only, then the pupsave is created on exit OK.

If I reboot from then on with no changes it will do this I assume indefinitely. Tried at least 10 times.

Once I run the network wizard for my wireless card and make changes, saving the wpa configuration then it will error out on closing Puppy.

However there is now a change in that it will show the message 'Pupsave already done' then it will issue this same message 3 times.

Modeprobe --- Fatal... /sys not mounted

It will then stop until power button pressed. It will always boot correctly thereafter but always shutdown with this error at end.

Final final.

It seems to run OK and save the pupsave then put error messages onscreen.

This seems to have no effect however on it's running again though.

I have added acpi=force to menu.lst and it shuts down OK.

I had to add a line to rc.local to keep the sound recognised on reboot without having to run alsa sound wizard again.

I also tried Jemimah's Goggles Music Manager pet. But it seems the sqlite libs have been changed from 431 and it will not work, it errors with libsqlite3-3.6.12.so.0 missing.

Yes I had to change it, it was too old for Seamonkey, you could just probably system link it to the needed number.

No, it needed the lib so I made a small pet of the lib and symlink.

I put it in the goggles post as it is only needed for that.
