Phoenix CE and Lassie CE
Update:
Talking Stick (see below)
has served its purpose
We have a wiki
http://puppylinux.org/wikka/TalkingStick
Two code bases - Bravo!
and two teams (working on parts of each others projects)
and not one but two new Community Editions coming up.
You lucky dogs!
based on Puppy 2.14r (retro)
maximum stability for older hardware
this already undergoing serious support and an ISO
for testing will be available soon
based on Puppy 3.02 Alpha with many cutting edge elements

so... can we make feature requests here?
+1 for Opera, preconfigured with all the plug-ins working out-of-the-box.
+1 for Xfce; fast, light DE that conforms with most of most people's expectations of a GUI.
hmmm, maybe a poll for feature requests could be created, once some candidates have been gathered.

Puppy 2.15 CE is absolutely great and convinced me at first sight! Since then I'm using Puppy Linux (and only Puppy Linux!) every day!
If you're interested, I can offer to take care of the X11-integration: including proprietary graphics drivers (ATI, nVidia), hardware-acceleration (2D, 3D) and the new Xorg-Wizard I'm currently working on.
My system is based on Xorg 7.2 and the newest proprietary graphics drivers.
I'm currently working as an IT-teacher (means a lot of spare time), but have more than 20 years of experience as a system programmer.

That wizard can go in - and be submitted directly to Barry
Do you have ATI and Nvidia compiled for the kernel in 2.17.1? (as far as I know this kernel will be in 2.18 and 2.20) - you might consider working with Warrens 9WhoDoEzpup (we might have an EZpup TalkingStick edition?)
I am not sure whether to suggest using
Puppy v2.20experiment1 (which Barry will provide soon) or 2.18 (if made available)
http://puppylinux.org/wikka/Puppy220
Ideally the wizard will work with all Puppys from 2.16 onward (when we adopted the new kerenel)
Lobster,
I have cleaned up the audio for this.

Many thanks have updated the wiki
louder and cleaner (and weird sounding but that is OK, I am weirder than I sound)
LOF suggested this:

Have something to say?
how to do a pod cast with Puppy

OK well I have used that in the tmxxine wikka wiki but could not get it working hereJust saw this over at the Wikka site. http://wikkawiki.org/Mp3Player
Maybe you could use it (if you aren't already) for putting your awesome podcasts on the wiki.
Cheers and looking forward to Talking Stick,

support
Hi there,
I could support with testing-testing-testing (old and new machines), small programs (bash, basic), and music/sound design.
I visited the above links to the wiki but found them still empty (mostly). In order to avoid posting errors, I prefer to ask the question right here: Where can I apply?
Thanks for feedback.
Rudy

For now we have to test from 2.17.1
One way to accomodate some of the favoured window managers / browsers and programs etc is to use SFS and a menu/downloader an approach I started here
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 625#126625
If you can test and get that working, it should work for all Puppys at least from Puppy 2.16 including whatever Talking Stick morphs into.
As time evolves I am sure other puplet creators will chip in with code that we can use adapt . . .
We are right at the beginning
May the Force Be With Us
Graphic drivers would be the biggest issue. Ezpup is EZ enough to install for spiffyness. Some people have wanted voice recognition and virtual machines now may be a good time for this.
+opera
+conky (hope whodo puts this in EZpup)
1 or 2 games that can take advantage of 3d drivers (limit to 2mb?)
+The Gnu wallpaper from MeanPup unless something awesome turns up
+OCR software like GROCR preferable something that works better but is just as small
+speech recognition http://www.voxforge.org/home/downloads/ ... t-download
+xfce4.4 as a package from NOP will it conflict with conky?
+xmms with more codecs add mime types for .it .xm .mod .s2m and other files at www.modules.pl or www.modulez.org (minuscule music files)
+we need to wait for upgrade to gtk 2.10 for compiz-fusion compatablity
+no gxine something else that is faster
can xmms run from the console? or is there a small console module player
if so play music like sabayon linux while seting up and after boot this may require xmms if so how could it be started up at boot with the correct file
+package a module tracker for puppy
+more modem drivers
+sfs of latest wine
+a new megapuppy sfs that is not in sections so i can download it from a highspeed conection and save it to usb to take home where i have dialup and couldn't download it even if it were in sections
that is about all i can think of now some are serious requests others just tentative ideas
Edit: here are 3 sets of drivers for 2.17+ for Nvidia: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=20997
Edit strike xmms since BMP is here: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=136012
or maybe xmms2 http://wiki.xmms2.xmms.se/index.php/Download_XMMS2

My current thinkingis that 2.18 will be a bug-fix and minor enhancements of 2.17.1, with my new 'init' script. The disadvantage of that is that it is still using all the same main set of packages -- xorg 7.0, gtk 2.8.
An alpha of 2.18 is not far away.
v3.00 is intended to be a complete new set of base packages. New gcc, glibc, xorg, gtk, the works. At this stage, I can't estimate when the experimental or alpha of that will be available. Probably in about a week I can give a rough time estimate.
The reason I want to update gcc and glibc is that people are already encountering the problem when they try to use binary packages from other distros like Slackware 12, and there is an error msg about "glibc 2.4" needed.

I've added a few of these requested apps to the Talking Stick Ideas page on the wiki.

Puppy 2.19 CE
You can see Steve Jobs 'Talking Stick' here:
http://tmxxine.com/Wikka/wikka.php?wakka=HomePage
(August 20 2007)
Make sure you put some publicity for Talking stick on your blog / wiki /web site / forums etc
BarryK wrote: An alpha of 2.18 is not far away.
OK we have a basis
2.18 is designed to be a stable release
Can we use Puppy 2.19CE as the name?
The main priorities people seem to have (based on previous community editions) are:
- Use another Browser
Use another window manager
Use other software (usually Open Office is requested
More radical is the idea of using chroot to turn 'Talking Stick' into a dual boot Live CD
How?
- Boot with Talking Stick CD (it is now in memory)
Place in second CD eg Vector Linux, Ubuntu etc
Activate chroot module
Is something like this possible?
chroot? why would any one want to run another distro from puppy esp if you can't go back(wasn't that an issue?). even though it sounds crazy to me it could hold a lot of potential still my main question is why(maybe quick kernek testing w/o reboot). mounting other distros and running their modules like slax modules might be an easier to reach goal. would be awesome but that maybe best left until 3.0 if it is more slack-compatible

I used to have Vector Linux installed, tri-booting with Puppy and Win98. It came with Lilo, so I used that as my boot-manager. I had to modify it with Vector though, so I'd chroot in and do it. Sometimes if I broke something I'd chroot the one in Vector, then mount my save file from there and fix it. I think I used to compile things that way also, back before the devx module.
I haven't used it in a while though since now Puppy and XP are the only things installed on Omnius, and just Puppy on Seurat. Erasmus might still have Vector though, I'm not sure. Another thing with chroot is I think you can create a "safe" environment with it somehow, but I don't remember the details. I think it had something to do with chrooting, then running apache, but then if it gets hacked it can't get back to the original filesystem or something.
But isn't this chroot scheme pretty similar to that hardly used feature Barry bestowed upon Puppy, I think called "underdog" or something? Where Puppy can piggyback on a bigger distro and use all it's stuff?

Possibbly. Don't know. It would make a great feature if Talking stick had a menu to run programs from say the top five top live CD's . . .Pizzasgood wrote: But isn't this chroot scheme pretty similar to that hardly used feature Barry bestowed upon Puppy, I think called "underdog" or something? Would that be possible / feasible? How?
Anyone fancy working on the default browser page?

music
I read something of music during setup. If this is still a valid option, I could compose and produce some tracks to select from.
3 questions regarding the music file though: length(sec.) ? / size(kB/MB) ? format (ogg/wav/other) ?
Any restrictions/advice from the architects at this stage, or can I make suggestions?
Donwloaded 1.17.1, tmxxine_shard and prism. Ready for testing.
But I understood from the posts that we will wait for 2.18?
