Thanks to you both for your help - looks as if a Clean Install would be a lot easier and more reliable.
Thanks for the effort

How to upgrade HD install?
Hello I've had an earlier version of Puppy 2.01 (I think) installed on a hard disk for a good while now - and I'm pretty happy with it. If I now want to upgrade my HD install to something like 2.17 (or 3.00) - could someone please point me in the direction of the documentation which tells me how to ...

Thanks - the loss of data wasn't catastrophic as it is easy enough to set things up again. What exactly did you mean when you said that 'hard boots are not good' ?? I've a HDD installation of Puppy - that's not an issue is it ? And the boot of Knoppix was from a live CDROM. I'm sorry but I didn't qu...

Knoppix and Puppy
I've been using Puppy 2.15 for many months now with a HDD install on an ancient old lap top. Very happy I am with it. Yesterday I used this m/c to boot up from a 'live disk' Knoppix 5.1. I wanted to see if I could configure my WiFi settings on it (I failed). When I came to run Puppy again today - it...

I reported a similar problem here about 2 days ago. Mine was a hard install of 2.11 on a laptop - and all went well with the install, and with grub. Then when I tried to reboot - I got the same error message as you have. I've gone back to 2.02 - which doesn't seem to have that error occir - and I wa...

Thanks for the advice - I think though that the menu.lst file and the location of vmlinuz are fine. Looking more closely - the error occurs immediately after a line which reads /sbin/init: /lib/libc.so.6 version 'GLIBC_2.3.4' not found (required by /sbin/init) and then comes the kernel panic line wh...

2.11 HD install: how to save config at shutdown?
I asked a question about HD install the other day - but maybe it was poorly worded since I didn't get a relevant reply. Can I please ask again - hopefully with better wording this time. Trying to use Puppy 2.11, to an Omnibook XE2 laptop. (I had previously had an earlier version of Pup installed to ...

Tried upgrading 2.02 install to 2.11; something went wrong
For some time I've had pup2.02 happily installed on a Omnibook XE2 laptop. The other day I tried to upgrade to 2.11 with bad results - somewhereI've completely screwed up. So I tried a fresh install to HD - following the normal default route - with a GRUB bootloader. All seems fine - until you power...

If you use the localhost:631 process - get to the page where you add a printer. I think you'll that on the same page you are offered the opportunity to add a PPD file. Browse to where you stored your downloaded driver and point 'Add PPD file' to there. If the downloaded file was compressed (tar.gz) ...

You don't say which driver/achine or how you got it ? (TurboPrint ??) If it's TurboPrint, then there are full instructions on the TurboPrint site. But from memory - you copy the *.tar.gz file to some appropriate folder and then decompress with tar -xzvf *.tar.gz cd turboprint (or wherever it extract...

WPA encryption state of play
The have been lots of posts about WPA encryption - and it's got difficult to find out where workingsolutions have been posted - some of the posts are useful discussions that don't seem to have culminated in a solution. I'm using Puppy 2.02, Hard Disk install on an HP XE2 laptop. My network card is L...

Puppy 2.02 Hard Disk Install HP XE2 machine Another question that will no doubt make me blush with shame when I see the answer. I'm trying to get WPA to work with my network card. Now it works fine if I turn off encryption from the router, and also with WEP encryption. But it seems that to get it si...

Possible ethernet configuration problem/solution
I wonder if there is an bug in the ethernet wizard routine for puppy 2.02. Working on an HP XE2 laptop - with a Sitecom lan card - I didn't know which driver to load - the correct one wan't loaded automatically. So I used the probe to find one that worked - and I got it after about the 4th attempt -...
