vaccines to reduce population

I'm no fan of either Bill Gates or indiscriminate vaccination, however there is a possible logic here: If you believe that the vaccines will help people, it goes like this - vaccines increase chances of children becoming healthy adults = more healthy adults (and less unhealthy ones) per child = high...

for i in `ls *.deb`; doesn't work in my lucid puppy 525

for i in `ls *.deb`; do undeb $i; shift; done doesn't work on my puppy (Yes, I know I'm not in 4.21). for i in *.deb; do undeb $i; done works (quotes around "*.deb" seem to be optional). for i in `ls *.deb`; do echo $i; shift; done returns "ls zynaddsubfx_2.2.1-2.1_i386.deb" inst...

Faulty default font in Geany

Just a minor fault, but annoying. The default 13 point Monospace font does not display the 'B' correctly on my monitor. 16 point has the same problem. Haven't tried different screen resolution - just thought of it and would have to restart X server and lose my nearly finished post. Will try shortly ...

Backup

Hi vicky, Now that you've got it working, I'd suggest backing up your pupsave file. Easiest way I've found is just to copy the pupsave.sfs file to a new name eg pupsave.sfs.dd-mm-yy . If copying to the same directory, right-click it and look for the copy option (probably near the top of the file 'pu...

Puppy Network Wizard - Load a network module

Had this problem in 4.xx and Lucid 5.25 1) For Toshiba Satellite laptop with RTL8191SE wifi NIC, Auto probe gave heaps of false positives, and for each one I had to go through the same manual sequence to re-start the auto probe. It would be nice to have the program use flags to automatically go thro...

some .avi won't play in mplayer or VLC

Hi guys, Mine does seem to be a codec issue - other .avi files play, and the offending files play in Windows on Media Player Classic (I use the K-Lite Mega codec pack there), but don't load in Lucid Puppy 5.11. I've checked my md5sum as suggested by Shep, and it's OK. I ran mplayer in rxvt and got: ...

Making puppy newbie-friendly

Hi Guys, I'm a linux newbie, but a windows superuser and a pre-windows programmer. In the process of getting to know Puppy, I've found a few newbie-frustrations that could use some work. 1) In the Lucid Puppy welcome screen under "Lupu Recommends", it recommended a suitable video driver, f...

D510MO Xorg

My selected resolution was 1680 x 1050, NOT 1920 x 1050. I was quoting from a not quite perfect memory. I've now tried Xvesa, but it doesn't offer me anything better than the 1280 x 1024 resolution of Xorg - Xvesa seems only to have 3:4 resolutions, not the widescreen 16:9. I'm considering the follo...

D510MO Xorg

Hi Studioluc, I've just installed Puppy Linux v4.31 on a D510MO (frugal install), and Xorg worked for me, but forced a 1280 x 1024 resolution instead of my selected resolution of 1920x1050. Was checking this forum for info re this when I saw your post. Do not know if this issue is a limitation of th...
