How to install iso to USB pen drive?
How to install iso to USB pen drive?
I looked and did not find a built Puppy program to burn an iso to a pendrive.
Up to now I have used Windows versions, but there are hit or miss.
What do you recommend for Puppy ?
I tried Unetbootin but the download had no extension, so the File Manager had no idea what to do.
It was a binary file.

So, you dual boot also to either Puppy or Windows ?
But, could you think about this ?
Linux would like new users, so why not include a built in program that would install any iso to a flash drive ?
It is not rocket science.
I spent half a day looking for Linux programs to do so.
I found none that worked, including unetbootin.

Nope.....since I use several computers, some of which I can not change, I boot from USB....have never seen any reason to put Puppy on the hard drive.fixit wrote:

New Linux users most likely would be on windows before they tried Linux...so the app I mentioned does what one needs to "try" linux.Linux would like new users, so why not include a built in program that would install any iso to a flash drive ?

I am posting this from a USB stick loaded with:fixit wrote:.. why not include a built in program that would install any iso to a flash drive ?
It is not rocket science.
Code: Select all
dd if=Fatdog.iso of=/dev/sdc ; sync
As it is not rocket science to could just use it (or find Barry's GUI for dd in the menu)
Note, does not work for every iso , just for hybrid ones like Fatdog .
have you tried LiveUSB
try this site...
http://www.linuxliveusb.com/
it is a free download, and step 2 MULTITUDES of distros to choose (MINT, UBUNTU, and more)
Use this step to pick on the link for the version matrix (pick on P to go to the PUPPY distros)
I recommend reading the site completely before beginning...there is a lot of info!
YES, there is a PUPPY!! In fact there are 8 puppy links...6 for x86 processors and one each for atom and celeron...
I have not tried it, since I created my own USB in a roundabout way...but the site has VERY comprehensive instructions (even a primer about how to fomat, and why to use certain formats...

Ms Kitty,
I already have the iso.
I am familiar with the site.
Windows has file download managers that are far better at getting error free downloads than the ones built into Firefox and Seamonkey.
A good program will do a CRC-32 checksum on downloading files which eliminates the need to use the MDA 5 value.
I have looked but have not found any for Linux.
Take care,
Andy
