Installing gtk+-2.12.1.pet messed up my desktop

Hi there,
I recently discovered Puppy Linux and am really happy with it. It it brilliant for getting some use out of my very old and useless laptop.

Everything was going well... I had version 4.0 running fine, set up my Netgear Wireless USB stick with the ndiswrapper and also set it up to mount a shared directory on startup.
I had also discovered the repository @ http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/dis ... ackages-4/ and had downloaded a few packages such as gqview.

On downloading gqview-2.0.4.pet and after installing it (if thats the right word), I ran it and although it worked, I discovered it had a quick moan about GTK being version 2.10 rather than 2.12.

Thinking I could easily fix this with the gtk+-2.12.1.pet, I downloaded and ran it. It seemed to hang, so I rebooted.

Now I get no user interface when I start the laptop, other than the taskbar bit at the bottom, which lets me pick programs - most of which won't now run.

I'm guessing I've mucked this up pretty royally? Is there anyone out there who can help me? It was all going so well.... :(

EDIT: Forgot to mention... it is run and installed on the hard drive of my laptop.

Nobody has any idea?

Time to start again I suppose...

Any ideas on the right way to install GTK 2.12 then?

Did not try this in Puppy 4, so do backup your savefile :!:

Looking at http://www.gtk.org/ there seems to be newer subversions.
Should I still download the packages from the http://mirror.pacific.net.au/linux/slac ... ackware/l/ site or will it work if I download the latest versions from http://www.gtk.org/ and use those?

The first repository that you should always look at is
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/dis ... ackages-4/
That has all the official packages for Puppy4, and they all work properly.

Puppy 4.00 comes with GTK+2.12.1
If your Puppy4 came with GTK+2.10 then it would appear that you are using an alpha version. Yes?

EDIT: Discovered I'm an idiot. Had puppy 3.01 set up, rather than what I thought was 4.0. Sorry to waste your time.
