Right, time to post before back to study. Hopefully my entire University existence will be over in just a few short hours... last essay. What better way to spend it than procrastinating for a few more minutes on Puppy....anyway....

I've created a pupplet called TigerPup, which is still very much under development. Based on wNOP's Compiz-Fusion scripts, it's become a pupplet in it's own right. I've also added launchers and a script to utilize puppy's easy portability on usb flash drives. TigerPup is being created with the novice computer user in mind; the idea is point and click.

No thats not the main link and the whole page is kind of bias towards Tmxxine 64 lines worth
When others like rudy,teenpup, My Fire Hydrant Series & Living water, and many others are barely touched and are equally as good.

Hi Folks
which puppy would you recommend for mymodest ThinkPad770X laptop?
I saw couple of topics related to setting up the modem,I am an experienced windows users but from what I've been reading that is useless when using linux,so I would appreciated very much if you can help granny .
my laptop has 128MB ram/8GB HDD/1 partition which has windows98SE (had enough of windows ).
just need to go online email my kids and grandkids and view pictures.offline I use it for bible study and write stuff formychurch group ......and play solitaire...LOL

Just till recently I had the same laptop you have.I'm still learning linux but I can help you setting up your tp770x .
let us start with the easy part....

which puppy would you recommend for mymodest ThinkPad770X laptop?

puppy linux version 2.16 worked just fine for me but i might be wrong not spending enough time to try getting the modem to work on later versions. version 2.17 also worked just fine but it has that feature of detecting the modem on boot which for some reason unknown to (still green when it come to linux...)effected my modest printer and when trying to use the modem the system hangs?!!

my laptop has 128MB ram/8GB HDD/1 partition which has windows98SE (had enough of windows ).

do you want to run puppy linux from :
a- what they call "Frugal install" which is by from cd,usb or extracting the system files to your HD.
b- or you want full install to your HD ?
If I may suggest that you keep windows till you become more familiar with puppy linux so if somehow you can have puppy on a cd or if you have a flash drive (512mb did just fine for me).

the third issue you have to consider is making a choice between the modem or sound.....again chances are I am wrong about this but what i noticed is that to get the sound working i have to disable quick boot but the modem will not work and as an experienced windows users am sure you know about resources conflict issues as that mwave modem also works as a sound card with shared IRQ.to get the modem working I enabled quick boot and using the mwave pet the modem was easy to setup just by apply whats in the mwave help document.
by the way if the screen resolution is to big/not clear for you setting up xvesa click on more and type 0x011A

I think every Puppy should work - I would stick to the original and I wouls choose 4.1.2 (I don't like 4.2 so much)

do all puplet derivatives work as multisession discs? (once iso is burned on dvd-r) I'm interested in trying puppy linux or a puplet.

what's a recommended program? something similar to grafpup (intended towards graphic imaging). along with basic user programs like firefox, music player, pdf foxit.

I'm looking for derivatives based on 4.1.1 or 4.2.1 due to my Acer Laptop 5100 not booting with versions other and these.

I've tried
NewYearsPup RC10.
Puppy 4.2.1 retro
Boxpup 4.2.1 retro

A real plus would being able to load in more than 3 sfs files.

My goal is to have a bootable USB with the Puppy Derivative and the ability to run windows applications found at http://portableapps.com/

Thanks Eric....I'll wade through that thread...but it appears to me that it's about the Acer netbook, where I have a notebook.

It looks to me that when 4.1.2 was produced, it didn't have drivers that were in 4.1.1 that worked with the Acer notebook....and all versions after 4.1.1 had the same issue, until 4.2.1 retro.

Hopefully I'll find something that will play with the Acer 5100....as I am not facile enough to roll my own from the 4.2.1-retro version.

Hi. I'm looking for large puplets (>500 MB or at least 200 MB with bundled software & codecs) based on the latest release of Puppy (puppy 4 2 1 k2 6 25 16 seamonkey or at least above 4). Is there a way to filter the puplet lists with these parameters or do I have to keep trying them one by one? Basically I'm looking for something approximating TEENPup with a newer kernel, etc for a certain PC which has no network connection (hence I need large bundles of pre-configured stuff). So far I've tried LighthousePup (recommended on the first page of this thread) which I sort of liked and flexxxpup1.7funnynight, (from linuxtracker.org) which I didn't like at all. I'm thinking about MiPup or Fire Hydrant 3.01b next. To tell the truth, I'm getting a little disoriented already.

Although i have not read through all the pages on this topic i get the gist and will tell you a little bit about my new puplet.

Dev-Pup, 1.0 has just been released.

Dev-Pup covers some what 6f a void i have come across in the way of software and development even compiling puplets.

lets brake it down into just a simple what you want phrase:

Do you or do you want to or even ever wished to be able to use Puppy Linux to develop software, make programs for windows or linux, model characters for a game or animated movie, what about even making an entire game completely on the go without the massive hassle of finding and setting up every single thing needed!
