Wary 0.9.2 (092) feedback
Hi
Here's an update on the OpenOffice problem.
I may be wrong, but it looks like it could be a video driver issue (or something related to it),
the reason i think this, is because no matter what i tried, it resulted in a lockup.
I used both of the packages suggested by Terryphi
http://dotpups.de/puppy4/dotpups/Libraries/java-jre-6u20.pet
http://ftp.nluug.nl/os/Linux/distr/puppylinux/sfs4_modules-4/openoffice-3.1.1-sfs4.sfs
Note:
that OpenOffice .sfs (md5sum: fc31434295bb6992a335517a2ec9899d )
already includes java: /usr/java/jre1.6.0_16
even rebooting several times between installing the java .pet and loading the OO.sfs.
The result was always the same, a complete system freeze (well, the mouse would still move)
and i had to hit the reset button on the tower to get out of it.
Anyway's, i was running out of idea's and i decided to try mounting the devx
just in case that might contain something OpenOffice required, but that did not work either.
So i thought f*&% it, lets try installing the NVIDIA driver for my card,
though first i had to build it because there isn't a .pet available for it.
After building it, and getting back to the desktop,
i crossed my fingers (and everyhting else) and fired up Writer, it loaded up without a problem.
So i tried the rest of them (Base, Calc, Draw, Impress, Math), no problems with any of them.
It made no difference whether i had Java enabled or not,
nor did it matter what version of java i had OpenOffice use (jre1.6.0_16 or jre1.6.0_20)
So i gathered together the NVIDIA files and made a .pet for further testing.
I made several fresh frugal installs,
and installed my NVIDIA .pet first, before adding anything else.
The following all worked without any problems at all:

These test were done in Wary-092 k2.6.34.6

This kind of adds up with Wary 094 which does not have the OpenOffice problem, in fact, its very robust, because video performance, especially screen redraw is way better on my hardware (Intel) than 092.CatDude wrote:
