This bug exists since 5.9. I reported here, but nobody was able to confirm. Looks like a bug in Slacko, not in Gnumeric.

I can't reproduce this with Xfce as the desktop, could it be a jwm issue?

Crash is definitely occurring when jwm is DE.

Frugal install of 64 bit version. Beautiful! A bug I experience is when
using Nathan wallpaper setting the first time. A error message appears
starting with 'No pinboard was in use ...' The new background does
not 'take' and clicking on the desktop toggles between the new and
old backgrounds. I then reboot and the new background is then there ok.

Two other machines here do not have the problem. Nor have I seen
anyone else submit the problem so far.

defaultwordprocessor (and friends) installs to /usr/bin instead of overwriting existing in /usr/local/bin.

Just installed the 32-bit version as a frugal install on 6 year old ex-office desktop PC. I mounted the .iso file, copied the files to a new folder, edited GRUB's menu.lst and rebooted. Installed in less than ten minutes start to finish and first impressions are that everything works out of the box. I LOVE being able to install a full system so quickly. It's fast, has a good choice of default apps and elegant appearance (well, as good as anyone can do with JWM/ROX !). Very good job, Micko, thank you.

A quick aside - James C, what is the desktop system monitor app that's showing in your screenshots?

I am experiencing a serious bug in Firefox ESR 38.4.0 on Slacko 630 full install. Because of cumulative slowdown, I must reboot this Core2 Duo Dell with 4 GB ram every 6 to 8 hours. On top of that, Firefox restores the browser with basic page controls inaccessible, for which there is no obvious solution. Not only are the three basic page controls in the upper right hand corner inaccessible, Show Desktop doesn't work, and Leave from the Menu button is non-functioning. So, not only am I required to reboot three times a day, I must also loose all my browser placements and history every time it's necessary to reboot. As far as Firefox goes, it doesn't get much worse than that.

After restoring previous FF browser instances, all browser pages are essentially frozen, with the page controls inaccessible because the title bar is above what is viewable on the monitor screen. The only solution is to use Cntl+Alt+Backspace to crash x to command prompt, then restart x with "xwin jwm" to get back to Desktop, then after FF is started, decline the Restore option.

It seems this Firefox problem does not happen if user refrains from editing (to uncheck/remove previous webpages) with the Restore dialog,

EDIT: 3 days later: Nope, that's not correct. It froze without any editing. So maybe it's the time between reboots. A 6-hour reboot cycle seems to be troublefree.

Just today, I am getting a warning that Firefox ESR 38.4.0 wants to disable outdated Adobe Flashplayer.

Every time I visit a new site, Firefox disables Flash and prompts me to enable it. Is there a way to stop this, and just globally accept the outdated Flash which is so objectionable?

EDIT: Several hours later, I have experienced the first unrecoverable, inoperable freeze. Had to press the power button for 7 seconds. First reboot experienced kernel panic. Second reboot experienced trouble identifying devices. Third reboot was fairly normal.

Issues with widescreen LED using analog output. I can't fix the resolution to it's proper size (1366x768) and offer me 1024x768 instead.

I can't continue to use this OS. I have to reboot all the time. Even so, most of the time, it makes my computer act like a Pentium 2 or 3, just painfully slow, with terrible lag. I click a button, and there's a 5 to 10 second delay before it activates. For about half the reboots, I can't restore Firefox, without starting all over, losing my place. I tried reducing the number of FF windows, but this has little effect. There is something fundamentally wrong, and in my opinion, the fault is not with my best working computer, a Core 2 Duo 2.8 GHz with 4 GB ram. It shouldn't be necessary to upgrade to a quad core to use the latest Puppy. It's just silly to use an OS that makes my computer act like a P2 or P3.

What you describe is a classic description of bad download of the Slacko iso file or bad install.

I would do a fresh clean download and fresh clean install.

You should not be having these problems with this computer.

Are you sure this computer does not have Ram or hardware going bad?
Power supply going bad?

I have no reason to believe there is a RAM issue. I am getting a script error on some of the pages with bad lag. I should be writing down those errors. This is 32-bit Slacko 630. Maybe i will re-download, and re-install.

EDIT: When I booted up the live CD of Slacko 630 and tried to burn the ISO again, I was reminded of a problem with Pburn, that the burn speed cannot be reliably set, meaning the burn is usually too fast. So I ran Slacko 5.6 in order to use Burn ISO to CD program. I am hopeful that Pburn is the cause of the larger problem, in which case you correctly diagnosed that I installed from a bad burn. Fingers crossed, as I re-do this full install of Slacko 630.

On Pburn: Default CD burn speed is 24.0. When set to 8.0, the burn speed was actually 15.8, Also noted, if any Pburn setting was changed from default, Pburn scanned the disc again, which scan never completed. Fact is, when I burned CD the first time, I used the default setting of 24.0 because I was in a hurry and not that familiar with Pburn. If Pburn is indeed problematic, I request that Burn ISO to CD be included in the standard package, as well as made available through PPM.

This issue has existed for ages. cdrecord doesn't seem to react on the 'speed' switch. If anyone has more knowledge about this - please step up...On the other side, cdrecord seems to set a proper burning speed for burning on each device. This is also the fact for burniso2cd.

I used the default setting of 24.0

- The default setting is 'Auto', which means cdrecrord/growisofs will choose a proper speed.
- pBurn does not offer to use decimals in burn speed
- If you set it manually in the Advanced tab, please do not use decimals.

If you can burn an iso with burniso2cd and not with pBurn, I am interested to hear. The pBurn code for iso-burning is mostly grabbed from burnis2cd

- will pmusic play the puppy reference mp3 file - /root/puppy-reference/audio/ivy.mp3
