Yeah, I've been on vacation, and I thought I was going to get a lot done, but somehow it just didn't work out. I've got a new job starting tomorrow. Things might be in disarray for a while.edoc wrote:Is this instruction from Page 1 still correct, please?

Congratulations on the new job!
Still on an unpaid writing-sabbatical here. I had hoped for some work on the side but the government-caused economic mess here has really dried-up PT work.
I will wait patiently .... errr ... OK, I will try to wait patiently ...

Re: Chrome Fonts
The fonts fix worked just great.

Sounds simple ... and that worries me ...
Please note the script to download the fonts. In Fluppy 006, I had to remove that extra " to get the script to work. In Puppy 4.3.1 on another computer, I had to leave it in. Go figure...

Hi all
Just made an sfs of seamonkey 2.0.9 with the latest flash
Could someone please test and evaluate it to see if it is worth upgrading the site download from 2.0.8 to 2.0.9
Thanks in advance

Someone posted to the Seamonkey support site that when they upgraded to 2.0.9 they lost their Address Book and all of their archived mail.
While a backup is *always* recommended have you observed this in an upgrade vs a new 2.0.9 install?
Is it an unfortunate "undocumented feature" they need to address or perhaps merely an anomaly in his specific install?

Hi edoc
Set up 208 on a clean frugal install, changed the home page, font settings and bookmarked a couple of sites.
removed 208 with add/remove sfs in the bootmanager configure bootup, and replaced it with 209, all the changes I made to 208 were carried forward to 209
I would still make a backup/list of your settings though (just in case)
hope this helps

Fluppy 4 GB RAM
I have 4 GB installed RAM on a Dell Vostro 220 Core 2 Duo CPU E7500 2.93GHz.
The available Fluppy 006 RAM however is 2.94 GB (Mem: 3080328).
I have no real need for the missing GB but out of curiousity I compiled the kernel
(http://puppeee.com/files/sources/kernel ... ed.tar.bz2)
using /etc/modules/DOTconfig-K2.6.34.7atom as .config file.
make menuconfig modifications
---Processor type and features --->
------ Processor family (Core 2/newer Xeon)
-------High Memory Support (64GB)
I booted Fluppy 006 using the original initrd.gz file. The command "free" now reports Mem: 4084772.
If no drawbacks appear, would it be feasible to offer Fluppy with two choices of kernel?

I finally full installed Fluppy because it is the only thing works on my netbook.
I had all kinds of troubles such as partition problems. I finally settled with ext2 and grub is set.
However, suddenly NO sound. I cannot even get the sound setup in the menu and scim is not working. It worked fine before I install it.
I can read and see some Korean letters but NO input.
It has been already 2 weeks for now. I finally came to an internet bar and I am asking what should be done to the problems.
I do admit I haven't read all the post in this forum regarding Fluppy.
I might be the only guy in entire UNIVERSE asking this question.
However I have done enough try last 2 weeks. I though I knew Puppy but I don't AT ALL.
Any patches or pets to fix this problem? I had a hard time to make sfs work.
What worked fine suddenly stopped working. I ran out of my patient. Does anyone know what can help to solve this problem?

Downloading from YouTube, etc?
What is the best app to use in Fluppy to download and save videos from YouTube and elsewhere, please?
I need to share a history-related video clip in a learning environment for young people and the Internet access at the location is unreliable.
Thanks!

Capturing UTube videos
Hi Edoc
I sometimes do this for the same reasons as you and the way I do it is to play the video and before I play another go to the tmp directory and you will see the file stored there waiting to be played again if you wish. Just take a copy to My-Documents and rename it if you want and that is it. This process can be done in any distribution.
Regards

Our son just got Skype w/video working under Fatdog64 and is all excited about it.
Is there anything unique about loading and using Skype under Fluppy 006 on a Samsung NB30 of which I should be aware, please?

edoc,
I'm no expert, but do have experience with Skype... my go-to version of Skype is the stable version 2.0.0.72 listed here http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 62&t=27198.
This was the last version (to my knowledge) which allowed me to select my added (external usb mic/speaker audio device) from within their Options menu. This has been important to me while traveling because I could not guarantee that any user-interface not carried in my own pocket would be available.
I can also tell you that, when using other Linux distributions, Skype does not always play well with OSS sound; I have never had a problem when using Puppy's Alsa sound with Skype. Just allow Skype to automatically adjust sound levels.

edoc,
Yes, that's the one I prefer. The newer Linux version I tried did not allow me to manually select an additional (external) audio device. (I had picked up a corded cigarette-pack-sized mic/amplified speaker that plugs into a USB port from a Tandy store in London some years back; not all Internet Cafe's have their own mics or allow me to use my own netbook on their systems.) The newest Windows versions add whiteboard features and such, but I don't care about those functions -- my world operates off of signature-bearing .pdf's... I just need to place the immediate business call -- and my chosen version even allows the occasional video call to home.
As for the age of the program, it's certainly not chic or sexy. But then, I don't carry a MacBookAir or wear $100+ Nike tennis shoes either. It just works.
I will add to this discussion one handy feature that Skype has -- one that I use a lot. I pay annually for a Skype telephone number, and have that number printed on my business cards. Then I forward that Skype number to whatever prepaid cell phone I am carrying in whatever country I happen to be in (assuming cell availability & coverage). People that need to reach me call my business card number, and my cell phone rings wherever I am ATM. Just don't expect the distant end to understand that while it is 4PM at their location, it is only 2AM -- and a different date -- at yours. If I am out of a coverage area or in-flight, Skype will (for another annual fee) take a voice message and notify me of the call by e-mail. All in all, it's a balance between maintaining accessibility and keeping costs in check.
OTOH, if you are only using the internal hardware and only your own machine, the newer version may work for you. Just stay away from the OSS sound issues. Oh, and do a voice check with someone you know... some versions are picky about hardware and may sound to the distant end as if you are speaking into a tin can. If this happens, go to the earlier 2.0.0.72 stable version or use some USB audio hardware on your end and try to get Skype to auto-detect it (no manual choice on later version).

We now return to our regularly scheduled program...
