Slacko(32/64) 6.3.2/6.3.0 bug reports.
I just did a full install of Slacko 6.3.0 (32-bit). All went well, and I proceeded to install the nouveau video driver by booting 'puppy pfix=nox, ram", then running xorgwizard. I set up the nouveau driver, which requires KMS, whatever that is, and was prompted to reboot. Then something irregular occurred, I was asked to save my settings as if I had done a frugal install or something. I don't recall being asked to save settings when exiting xorgwizard. In any case, as I proceeded to save settings, the prompts looked more and more like a frugal install, so I quit the save dialog and rebooted. What is going on? Is saving part of the operation for installing the nouveau video driver?
You recall the slow SFS file transfer I complained about in a preceding post. Is the existence of this frugal install the cause of the save dialog? [Yep, that's what it was.] I am going to delete the files, because I am so through with frugal installs. I usually allow one frugal install in the root of a full install, but I will delete that frugal install at the slightest hint of trouble.
Do you frugal install partisans even remember how convenient, how fast, how trouble-free a full install is? You need a program from another version, run it as a liveCD.

Re: after xrandr -o left
Is due to lack of hardware acceleration. I found the same bug in Fatdog.oui wrote:see pls color points!
red points: very uggly
yellow points: can be accepted but is not good... is bad!
green points (hidden top bar and bottom bar) : very good (is not so in all Puppy's), thank you!
Midori is Chromium based, right? Try with the option --ignore-gpu-blacklist (this solved the same issue in Opera)
Whoops! Guess I should have posted this post http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 783#871783 here.
Action : (for 32 bit version)
Menu, Destop, Desktop Settings
Select the Themeing icon
Click the MORE button to the right of Program Decoration (gtk)
At the bottom of that gtk theme switcher window click the Font dialog and set to whatever desired ... and there no "Apply" option, just a OK option which exits without applying the change. Clicking the CANCEL button instead - applies the change (wrongly labelled).
Cause :
/usr/sbin/ptheme_gtk code, around line 152 through 156 the CANCEL button label is associated with the old APPLY button action

I'm running 6.3.0 64bit live from a USB and it's working very nicely thank you. I changed pmedia in the last line in syslinux.cfg to read pmedia-cd to get it to load the sfs from the HDD instead of the USB - I think that's what it does, and I've always run puppy this way - maybe except for Fatdogs.
I'm pleased how well it runs on this cheap HP Pavilion dm1 4108au laptop and that my favourite browser Google Chrome is easy to set up, likewise LibreOffice, and that the tricky wifi (Broadcom Corporation BCM4313) and sound cards that come with it worked pretty much straight away. I was beginning to despair of finding a good, plain, up to date puppy in the post Barry kennels. Thank you mick0
Now, is there a way to select different mouse cursors? Other pups have a select desktop cursor menu item, but I can't find one here.

Updates Manager displays installed packages
Hi. I have installed Slacko64 6.3.0.
If I use "Updates Manager" I see two packages:
1) mozilla-firefox-38.4.0esr
2) seamonkey-2.39
but these are already installed on my system, in fact if I try to install one of them I get an error: "the package xxx seems already to be installed".

Slacko 6.3.0
Hi.
I downloaded slacko 6.3. and used gnumeric. Unfortunately gnumeric crashes every time I go to a cell - click copy - click on to another cell in order to paste the value from that cell before. Since gnumeric does it every time I guess it is a bug. A have used Precise, Tahrpup and Quirky and did not have this particular problem. These puppy’s have there own problems. So the question what causes it and how can it be fixed ?
Thanks for your help.

From Boot Options info:nubc wrote:I just did a full install of Slacko 6.3.0 (32-bit). All went well, and I proceeded to install the nouveau video driver by booting 'puppy pfix=nox, ram", then running xorgwizard.
So if you did this you were booting a frugal install.Full Installation
"...Pfix=nox doesn't work in full install because the code that interprets this only exists in initrd.gz, and full-install doesn't use initrd.gz. (In fact, all other puppy boot parameters will not work in full install)"
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

Re: Slacko 6.3.0
This bug exists since 5.9. I reported here, but nobody was able to confirm. Looks like a bug in Slacko, not in Gnumeric.TIW wrote:Hi.

Re: Slacko 6.3.0
I can't reproduce this with Xfce as the desktop, could it be a jwm issue?MochiMoppel wrote:This bug exists since 5.9. I reported here, but nobody was able to confirm. Looks like a bug in Slacko, not in Gnumeric.

I can't confirm this bug. All working good here. Could it be hardware dependent?MochiMoppel wrote:This bug exists since 5.9. I reported here, but nobody was able to confirm. Looks like a bug in Slacko, not in Gnumeric.TIW wrote:Hi.

Manual frugal install to fat32/f2fs 16Gb USB2 stick - syslinux 4.04 boot.
Everything working OOTB with nouveau driver. Installed the following pets:
Whilst that was running I was still not getting GL in Chrome which insisted that the blacklisted
nouveau driver was running which it was not.
Tracked that down to line 28 of xorg.conf where I found that GLX had been specifically disabled.
Commenting out that line brought it into play with Chrome behaving correctly and generally better
graphics performance all around. It would seem that it is once again worth installing the proprietary
driver rather than relying on nouveau.
I am posting this as a possible bug as I have not encountered this xorg.conf issue before and the
solution may assist others.
Finally a screen shot to show what I am banging on about.

Frugal install of 64 bit version. Beautiful! A bug I experience is when
using Nathan wallpaper setting the first time. A error message appears
starting with 'No pinboard was in use ...' The new background does
not 'take' and clicking on the desktop toggles between the new and
old backgrounds. I then reboot and the new background is then there ok.
Otherwise, everything is fine. Thanks for your efforts, Micko!
