Frugal install on ext3 partition 1gb .3fs save file

Using open box windows manager with Opera 10.10 - 4742f.sfs web browser open
- when i try to install pwidgets from the puppy packages manager after down loading packages the lower task bar vanishes and no applications (except turn off / reboot) work from right mouse click system menu. After reboot lighthouse loads to a black screen and a cross 'X' mouse cursor.

I deleted that save file made a new one with the exact same settings and problem occurred again.
Same thing happened to me, stu90. This is noted at the bottom of the first post under ***Bugs and quirks***. Maybe I should pop up a message before PPM launches that Pwidgets has been updated for LHP and other puplets. You can get the latest version here: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 211#249211

synthplayer & Jim1911,
Thank you for the additional information. A frugal install of 4.43G into an NTFS partition will fail also. I'm working on a fixed 4.43Gu1 and should have it up later today. I'll try to fix it so an spupsave.4fs will mount as well.

:) That's true I have, I just wish I had tested G on a Windows partition before starting the slow upload process; from now on I will.
Thanks,
TazOC

Hi TazOC,
If you want another machine test, PM the new init file and I'll test it on NTFS, ext3, and ext4 partitions before you upload the new iso. I unpacked your 443G initrd.gz and saw the changes that you've made to the init vs. the ones that I'd made to 443F to make it mount as 3fs, however, my limited knowledge of code doesn't provide any assistance to you. At least I can give it a test on my hardware.
Jim

Using 443G. Upgraded by xdelta. I have ext3 partition and I use ext2 savefiles. I started with fresh savefile. Should I upgrade to fixed 443G ?

Problem: wireless does not remember my savings. I have to start with load my profile and click DHCP before I can connect to net. Is it new bug or is it part of this existing problem ?

I would, just in case you decide to save to a vfat (common on USB Flash) or ntfs partition at some point.

I will have to do some testing on this. In the meantime, maybe one of these threads will help: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=337639

Wireless. After couple of reboots LHP 44G the first remembers my wireless savings. Posting without need to go through whole process.

So maybe I was too hasty to post bug report..... :)
Will report if something new happens....

And thanks of your efforts Tazoc. I like what you have done.

Hi legend,
I don't know how to upgrade a full install, apart from another clean install, and I prefer the frugal install and a new pupsave for each new version. Or with a frugal you can backup your pupsave and replace the files on the CD to try upgrading a pupsave. 4.43 G isn't ready yet, I found more bugs in G's shutdown script that needed attention.

tazoc, computing should be fun and not a core so let it take the time it takes. No need to satisfy our hungry demands instanly.

I am like a kid. I want it now! But don't listen to that. Better an almost bugfree instead of a version full of shutdown problems or other annoying things.

Is there a version of Mplayer compiled with v4l/v4l2 support that is available for Lighthouse Pup?

I need to get the drivers for my Philips SPC900NC web cam working so that our son may create and share video with friends and relatives.

While it's not possible to say without more details, I've found that all my problems with network settings not getting saved were not related to the network system at all but were about a bug where /etc was not getting saved. I had posted in that regard here in regard to Lighthouse and here for Puppy 4.3.1 in general. TazOC says he's/she's (er, tazOC, are you a he or a she?) incorporated this fix, so maybe it will go away in the fully functional 4.43G.

"tazOC, are you a he or a she?"
In my view [which may be wrong], a [s]he [= ex-he?] is a particular kind of he.
a sub-category of he.

We are ALL men.
Hence all can generally be referred to as "he".
Unless you want to be more precise, and specify the sex of the person.

A "man" who has a womb...
Is called a womb-man...
Shortened to woman.
[In old Scots (= to old English?) it's Wame not Womb]

It would then be logical if a man who produces sperm was called a sperm-man...
Shortened to sperman?

Statistically it is most likely he is a he.
In case he is a she that is so rare that she
most likely don't feel offended to be thought
to be a he while a he sometimes do feel offended?

just guessing what is statistical. I would be surprised if
he is a she. Linux lovers seldom is she while linux users
may be of both sexes. To program is seldom something
woman long for to do. Designing social networks maybe.

designing homepages to look good more likely than
doing linux OS remastering or compiling or such.
I use Google Search on Puppy Forum
not an ideal solution though

Well, I checked your threads, but there was not ongoing solutions or debate. So for me dead thread :(

I will just report and I if there is something spesific I will tell....

 TazOC is definitely a he. My name is John, though there are many Johns around, e.g., (John Murga is not me) so I prefer TazOC.

I've updated /usr/sbin/snapmergepuppy for 4.43 G and soon-to-be released Gu1, but you can update 4.43F with the file attached here. If you want to check the output, click on the 'Save To Flash' icon on the desktop, wait for it to finish, then open '/tmp/root/snapmerge.log' with a text editor. You should see 3 sections, whiteouts, directories and files. Assuming your pupsave is on a USB Flash drive the log will be long. If it isn't, you don't see all 3 sections or it has copy errors, you can attach it to a post and we can see if snapmergepuppy needs more work. Don't post it if you see anything in there you don't want us to see or delete those lines first! (That log is deleted along with everything else in /tmp at reboot.)

Im using it with broadcom 4311 and it seems fine, though sometimes I have to reload the wireless driver for some reason. Anyways how do you get compiz working, I have the icon and am inside lxde, and I have compiz set as the desktop manager thing from the icon. Is there something else I should be doing to get it to work? Im using an intel 950gm, and compiz works in tigerpuppy; though the wireless doesnt work in tiger puppy..

Any ideas?

Not that I know of but I will keep that in mind for the future.

Possibly in the future as a general release, probably if/when official Puppy supports the 4312. Have you tried Stardust003? Not sure if Zigbert has continued with the 4312 support or not.

I don't know if anyone has been able to use Compiz with an Intel display adapter in LHP. I don't have an Intel box to test with. Some have had success with MU's Alternative Xorg/xserver 1.6.3/Intel pets but I haven't seen anything re: Compiz and those pets. I think you'll need the Mariner SFS for DRI and 3D, but again I don't know if Compiz will work for you. It is a hit-and-miss proposition with Compiz...
