Since the naming of zdrv_214R.sfs was changed in initrd.gz_/sbin/init I tried to boot with the zdrv_.sfs renamed to zdrv_214X.sfs: no go
. zdrv_ could not be found and loaded 
. Been hunting down the places in pup_214X.sfs where an R should be changed to an X (and a few instances where there should have been an R, but wasn't).
Now it works for me with pup_214X.sfs and zdrv_214X.sfs.
To fix it, unsquash pup_214R.sfs, run the following script once in the top directory of the unsquashed .sfs, mksquashfs the pup_214X.sfs again, and voilà!
