lost connection

But most likely me can just autoconnect each time.
Thanks nooby to infome me. I was not aware of such an ISP.
I was wondering why Pwireless2 (and SNS too?) rerun the dhcpcd with some interval.
It is annoying for the people who are using continuous connection.
Think the Network Wizard need to have such function as an option.
But i am not sure what happens for each strategy.

I will tell here if I lose connection. Then I go back and use Quirky as my main puppy and use LupQ if I need some Ubuntu music Studio or such when I feel for music.

Edit: Works good so far.

PPM bug with furugal install on flash

Posted: Wed 22 Sep 2010, 05:59
by shinobar
Puppy Package Manager(PPM) of recent woof has 2 big problem with furugal install on flash.

PROBLEM
Assume furugal install with pupsave on flash device, using recent PPM.
  1. Install, say somepackege-1.0.pet, unistall it, then again install the same package or the same package updated, say somepackage-1.1.pet .
The files somepackage must recover in most case.
But recent PPM with frugal install, the PPM shows no error but the files disappear.
In case uninstall, then reboot PC, and re-install the package, the files recover with no problem.
  2. Installing some packages which has files under '/mnt/home', the PPM shows no error but the files under '/mnt/home' disappear.

REASON
There is a bug at the code add on 26 Apr 2010 and later, for boot from flash, bypass tmpfs top layer, install direct to pup_save file.

SOLUTION
Attached /usr/local/petget/installpkg.sh bugfixed.
It is for next release on LupQ(-510), but may work on any Puppies 4.x/5.x.
Note: the encounter measure for the problem 2, is already implemented in the LupQ-509.
Bugfix against the problem 1 is the new code from the LupQ-509.

I tried to find the answer using the wellminded search but failed due to me have no idea how to chose right key words.

I try to play .rm and .ram files. I guess that is RealAudioMedia or maybe RealMovie? for .rm?

I tried to play them using the built in GNOME Mplayer but it fails.

For Lucid Puppy which player are supposed to play these files?

All else seems to work very good. Okay I have not dared to start spotify yet.

RealMedia

I don't know the detail of the RealMedia and where can i get the sample movie.
It depends on the version of the RealMedia created.
I have some .rm video files i created some years ago and it plays with the defaultmediaplayer(GNOME Mplayer) on LupQ with no problem.

Many media players available for Lupu/LupQ. I am not sure which plays which type of files.
Here is a new version of FFmpeg with FFplay and FFconvert for LupQ.

I would prefer a GUI program.

I did a search and found this one.

Smokey says Quote:
I'm a little confused about Gxine. The one I am using in lupu-5.0 is the one that came with 5.0. Are you saying you are having problems with it? I will see if I can find a copy and try it in lupu-507.

Playdays says:
Yes smokey, I used the pets gxine, xine-lib, and mplayer_codecs_basic that were installed in Lucid Pup 5.0, and installed them in 507 and the resulting gxine runs but it does not play everything it should--in fact it only plays a few things,.

It plays mpg video and mp3 audio and maybe some others but not most video and not flac audio.

There must be something else that is in 5.0, well duh, but I don't have time to chase it down right now. If you did then I would put it into PPM in time for the release of 5.1. Thanks.

I remember that when we made the shift from gxine and installed a pet of mplayer to test, someone reported that it made gxine not work as well anymore. But I would like to have it for PPM for sure if it could be compatible.
so maybe they had no time to find out how to get them to coexist?

I maybe looked too hastely but found not GXine in the PPM.

I think me have GXine in Quirky? Not sure though. Would be cool to be able to run RealAudioQuicktime in LupQ too.

Maybe the files I have on my computer is from an older RAM say 2008 or 2009 and they changed some codec or so?

slim down lupq 509

I'm still using lupq 509 but I will download 510 and test.

These observations apply to version 509

Some suggestions to save a bit of space in the ISO.

I'm not sure if these 2 files are needed ...

/usr/share/doc/nls/ffconvert
/usr/share/doc/nls/ffconvert/ffconvert_ja.po
/usr/share/doc/nls/ffconvert/ffconvert.pot

The application 'retrovol' can be stripped to half it's size
by Iguleder's program strippkg.

As well there's a new version of Asunder available
but I don't know if it's worth upgrading

lupq-510 rc :

Runs very well on my hardware as almost all Puppies.

Internet Broadband : OK
Printed from geany without even printing the testpage :)

ICEWM hasn`t any Menu as far as I can see and there is no WM switcher at both WM :(

Midori is freezing sometimes or killed all of a sudden at all puppies somehow. Even the installation of the larger Midori at other Puppies from technosaurus post for midori seems to be just a little better for that. Also SeaMonkey at dpup-005 shows such behaviour .....

~20 MB less than luci 511 standard

Thanks don. I realized that many other applications are not stripped.

Code: Select all

# find /usr/bin -type f|xargs file| grep -w 'not'
/usr/bin/glxgears: ..., not stripped
/usr/bin/glxinfo: ..., not stripped
/usr/bin/abiword: ..., not stripped
/usr/bin/asunder: ..., not stripped
/usr/bin/dbus-daemon: ..., not stripped
/usr/bin/gnome-mplayer: ..., not stripped
Oh my...
Abiword is 16.9MB but becomes 5.6MB after stripped!
I wonder why no one have not ever realized?
And why it occurs if the Lucid Puppy was build by the woof?

IceWM is removed on LupQ.
Did you install icewm-1.3.7pre2-lupq.pet?

Bonjour shinobar,
"merci " for your time and energy with this new lupq-510 !
I will test it in a short future.
Here on lupq-509 using only midori for googling some information, when clicking to download a pdf file, there came a 1st dialog box asking whether to save/save as/cancel/open;
if click on open, then a dialog box "Encrypted Document" asks for password.
if click on save, then the well saved pdf file can be normaly opened whithout any password- nor encryption- warning.
I installed Panzerkopf forum member's "gv.gz" (see link here after)
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 15d6e39222
but without any change.
On another PC + lupq-509 + Panserkopf's gv.gz + Firefox browser, the same pdf document is opened without any warning.

Is this another "limit" of midori.?

A plus tard, Charlie

LupQ-510s STRIPPED

I uploaded lupq-510s.iso.
825f0afcb920196f2d827fbd60426c5a lupq-510s.iso
The version indicates '510', same as the last lupq-510.iso.
  • Abiword and some excutable and libraries was not stripped. They are all stripped.
  • Removed sylpheed shared libraries not used.
  • 'LC_ALL=C' in /usr/sbin/pupdial because the PupDial seem to fail with some European locale.
Hopefully this is the final.

Hi again shinobar!
on a PIII 600MHz+384KRam+2MB swap partition (163MB free space)
+frugal install of lupq-509+wine-1.1.43+fontmap-8.11-lupu-1+lang-pack-support-fr+efax-gtk-3.2.4-lucid+gsfonts-8.11-lup
(No firefox nor any other quickpet program installed)

problem:
Early this morning, a couple of minute after bootup, I opened midori + moved the mouse cursor rather fastly across the screen while DSL modem connection process to internet (not yet achieved at that moment), X server hanged up - i.e. got a black screen and the following comments:

Code: Select all

...Starting X, specs in etc/X11/xorg.conf , startup apps /root/.xinitrc...
[drm_wait_ring] *ERROR* space : 65520 wanted 65528
[drm_wait_ring] *ERROR* lockup
Exited from X . Type "xwin" [fvwm95|jwm] to restart X
Then doing xorgwizard and afterwards xwin gave the same blackscreen + same comments.
Then I typed "reboot".

I tried to reproduce this on same conditions whithout getting any problem.
Everything looks OK ... till now...

question:
so what could it be ?

Cheers, Charlie

Bug: frugalinstaller v.1.3 with NTFS oartition

by shinobar
Found a bug.
The frugalinstaller v.1.3 fails to mount NTFS partition. In accurate, mounts NTFS partitions with wrong way.
To escape the bug, mount the NTFS partition BEFORE starting the frugalinstaller.

We need another trial before finalizing LupQ?

another application that barry added to more recent woofs is scottman's advert blocker http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... c5ce156982. i add it everytime after install, you may consider adding this to the final. other than that i don't come across any issues. Image

Thanks sinc for the information.
As for LupQ(and lupu), the internet browser is your choice.
So i think such a tool can be optional.

EDIT:
The scottman's advert blocker seems browser independent.
But at this moment we are finalizing LupQ in couple of days..., I like to consider for the future version.
