Got my startup sound ready for 1.3 when I upgrade.

It's coming up,
It's coming up,
It's coming up,
It's coming up,
It's coming up,
It's coming up,

It's dare,

Ahhhhhhh.

Did some fiddling with audacity and a Dare ringtone by Gorrilaz.

I dumped the start and shutdown sound, I got sick of hearing harps, I'm usually glued to the screen so I know it's starting.

While I'm here, does anyone get black lines over the text when posting in the forum.

battleshooter and I have this happening, well I have since I've been using this pc.

I'm thinking it's a video card driver problem.

Code: Select all

Graphics: Card: ATI RS690 [Radeon X1200 Series]
X.org: 1.11.0 drivers: ati, radeon (unloaded: vesa) tty size: 101x24 Advanced Data: N/A for root

I couldn't say, if 1.2 works then 1.3 will.
The underlying system is as it was, so if you had problems before then you mostly still will have with this.

There are no plans to update any drivers or any other major changes.
But battleshooter will possibly have a version that will work on hardware that 1.2/1.3 fails on.

Watch this space, nearly there, still finalizing things. :)

I had a quick search online, doesn't seem to be anyone who's had luck booting Linux on the Acer ICONIA. Not even Ubuntu. I usually use that as my gauge, if it can boot in Ubuntu, it ought to boot in Puppy. I'm also thinking if it won't boot Carolina 1.2 it won't boot Carolina 1.3 as Geoffrey said there would be no driver changes,

I read around a lot before considering it, since it's a little old, but it's pre-UEFI ...

"The Acer Iconia W500 is a tablet PC which also supports Linux. It is supported by Ubuntu since version 11.10."

http://www.linux-hardware-guide.com/201 ... ti-hd-6250

"I have good experiance of acer iconia with debian wheezy with xfce"

Haha, whoops. I think the problem was I searched the whole model string so I didn't get a lot of hits :)

Well I guess that leads to my other question, does it work with Carolina 1.2?

I'll give it a try when I get my hands on it.

I was hoping someone on the list had already tried ... before I spent $200.

I haven't found any other tablets that are affordable (around $200.) and that play nicely with Linux.

Triple-OS Tablet! 8)

Never hear of "Burg".

Gotta try this!
This tablet comes with three OS installed; Windows 8 Release Preview, Ubuntu 11.10 and Android ICS 4.0.4 -x86. I have custom graphic bootloader (Burg) created so you can select OS to boot (see pictures). Windows 8 is installed a few days ago so it is walid for almost 3 months, then you can decide to purchase the license, install your Windows 7 or just use Ubuntu or Android.

That's cheetin, I was going to update that before posting it, though it is pretty much how it is, rg66 suggested I update sfs load and I was going to make another theme to make uploading another iso worth the effort.

But now the dog's out of the bag.
I'll have to use hidden directories from now on

I loaded google earth and the devx so sfs load on the fly is working fine I think.

Billtoo you're a scoundrel!

I like how you have a screencap of Taylor Swift. Wasn't her album leaked before the due date as well?

Still, that sounds like an interesting buy. I see it's sold, did you actually buy it?

Slacko 5.3.3t works well on that tablet - including the touch screen - although the touchscreen only works like a touchpad. You slide your finger across the screen to position the mouse, then tap the screen (anywhere) to simulate a mouseclick.

I had to load xvkbd to get access to an onscreen keyboard but at least it worked. Not like Android though - the whole area of touchscreen functionality in Puppy is dependent on devs having access to hardware, which makes it difficult. There are so many different types of touchscreen...

Haven't tried Carolina on it yet though.

ps: LH64 works well, but you have to have a good eye and a tiny finger to drive the high res screen and touchpad (touchpad works more like Android, but without the multitouch 'stretch' capability)

Versions prior to 2.3 had some issues, you can do a test to see if it's working properly. In RAM, remove some packages with "remove builtin packages" and then load and unload an sfs with "sfs load on the fly". If the removed packages reappear then it should be updated to version 2.3.
