IceWM Tutorial on how to convert JWM menu

#1 Post by jundis »

GuestToo YOU ROCK!!!! I just started using puppy and got jwm configured but i went to the dotpup to get puppybasic but i saw icewm and i tried it. Took me a while to figure how to convert my JWM menu to icewm but i got it. Thanks again.

For all you newbs/noobs like me here's a tutorial on how to set your jwm menu stuff to icewm:

Note: I made this while using puppy 1.0.7 so if it doesn't work for 2.13 convert it or shut up! :)

 Open Home
 Make hidden files visible
 Goto .icewm
 Make a backup of menu
 Go back to root
 Goto .usr
 Goto local
 Goto the folder called jwm2icewm-menu
 And finally open jwm2icewmmenu and press yes(make sure you have a backup).

Ciao

Great. Hopefully this will no longer be necessary as of Puppy 2.14. It will include XDG menus that take care of this for most window managers.

Puppy, including older versions, has /root/.icewm/menu built-in.
It's in the live-CD, even though IceWM isn't installed. If the IceWM DotPup
doesn't overwrite that, then you already have a menu, no need to
convert anything.

my Icewm dotpup package has menus for earlier versions of Puppy ... newer versions of Puppy come with an Icewm menu, my package should not remove or over write that menu

i don't know whether MU's Ultra package over writes the menu or not

i thought that this tutorial might have been on how to convert a personally customized JWM menu to an Icewm menu

Enjoy! You can also download extra Icewm theme packs using MU's excellent Puppy Software Installer (PSI)
