Few months ago I downloaded FBReader and Aldiko Book Reader on my Android.
These readers also includes a browser/downloader to access different network ebook catalogues and stores.
Several popular English, French, Russian, Chinese, and Polish libraries were included.
Custom OPDS catalogues are supported too.
Just google OPDS catalogues and add it's link in it.

FBReader is available for puppy too, somewhere in the forum.

Alright people, I'm not in favour of illegal downloads but just giving the following "tips" merely as a matter of information. Using it is entirely YOUR decision and I do not accept any responsibility for any wrong doings. Website: bookzz.org ; google for "calibre choose a category to browse by"

Nah best place to get used books is street side vendors, I sometimes get good book really cheap.
And the window shopping there is fun. You can actually handle those books, check them and.... bargain.
Sometimes the vender doesn't even know what jewel he has.
They are just uneducated trash collectors.
Whatever you want to buy, don't look interested or exited.

I didn't say that was the only place.
I also sell my old book back to those book shops.
I had a room full of shelves up till recently when I needed to but a bed in there and had to sell most of them.
The owner knows my preferences and keeps likely book on one side for me till I go in.

https://openlibrary.org/

I have also found personal libraries maintained on peoples personal servers online but I never book marked the links.. Things available like novels from "Brian Lumley" and comics like "Afro Samurai".

There are millions of free books at https://www.hathitrust.org/,
there is also a qt application that will download these book as pdf's without the need to be signed in with an account.
The site has a download limit which will make you wait to continue large file downloads.

Needs QT installed HathiDownloadHelper-1.1.0.pet

There are several sites for free self-published ebooks if you google.
Some of the publishings are teRRRible, as if they were an unfinished tail by a teenager,
Others are quite good.
My 'doze computer with the list I had on crashed, so I managed to loose them. Currently my local library has free ebooks

The book is a tribute to Jim Gray, missing at sea since 2007, who foresaw the importance of data and the cloud before most scientists realized that a transformation was underway -- these words are his.
