Make this program active.
It does what it's title says.
If you do not have it, the pet for the program is here:

When it is activated it will be active from that point on.
This didn't work either, I will reinstall Retro.

Hey guys, have not worked with puppy for a while now as I wanted to get a good distro on pc, then work again with puppy. I tested for a while and realize that Retro is the only one that works reliably.

Right now I am having an issue getting into Windows XP. I installed LXLE 12.04 as #2 in Dual Boot after Editing my Partitions to suit me better. Now I see XP in boot-loader, but it won't boot when I chose it. I still have the "menu.lst" and menu.lst "something" in Windows file system, is that what is preventing me from Booting XP? As I understand menu.lst and it's brother was created by Grub4dos, so can this just be Deleted and fix my problem?

Any info needed just say the word, need to get into XP. Right now I am seeing the Grub2 from LXLE when I boot, and in the future I will try to stick with Grub2.

Thanks pcpunk

Above Post was EDITED to...hopefully make better sense.

Guys, I took a pic of the Grub4dos removal command in .png when it was presented but it did not get saved somehow.

Thanks pcpunk

PC, since I'm not as up to speed on Grub as I'd like to be, I've gotta leave the door open for someone more familiar with it to advise you here. Sorry..

Yes I know, you have been very helpful to me, I don't forget these things! I dug through png's in precise retro for an hour last night to find the one that showed how to reverse Grub4dos with no luck.

PC, to *which* partition did you install G4D? Post its menu.lst and dump the output of: fdisk -l

Here is everything that I think you are asking for as Attachments, hope this is the right way to post.

Opps, getting this error when trying to post Attachment: "The Extension docx is not allowed"

I do have this from the grub repair tool here

What is that screenie, Lubuntu?

Who's the current btldr.. G4D or Grub2?
Screenie is XP?

Don't know what btldr means? bootloader? Using Grub2 now.

When I "Choose File" as "Attachment" so I need to click "add attachment" also, or just "Submit"?

It's XP FROM Lubuntu!

OK -- G2's the current btldr.. YES! Boot Loader!

And yes >> Choose -- Add -- Submit. Trial'n error's your friend.

That the btldr  gurus have kept hush, I'll need time to digest the docs before continuing..

PS -- XP's on a FAT32? Really..

This is what is interesting to me, at the Top of menu.lst:
"menu.lst produced by grub4dosconfig-v1.9.1"

I was thinking that deleting this and menu-advanced.lst would help as I have deleted puppy until later. But can't be sure.

EDIT: Just read your post, will keep up on Topic until I hear back from you. No hurry Semme, this is No.3 pc But have searched high and low as to how to work with Grub4dos removal to no avail.

Why not just rename those files and see what happens?

You could always rename them back from a live boot..

Yes, actually LXLE

Ps --XP Should have been what - NTFS? If so I will change upon next install, if that ever happens again lol. That was a Default Install by me with OEM Disc, so there ya go lol.

If G4 was not in the picture I would attempt a fix with G2, and perhaps still can, but worried that G4 is mucking things up? I think G2 can be EDITED still as it is working now, I will look into adding XP to it.

Look, there's a method to the madness with G2.. I simply don't have the time @ the moment to carry out the plan.

It either waits or someone that can make small beans of your mess steps in.

Time will tell -- I'll be back!

Gotta disk? >> http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/linux-how- ... tall-grub/

You can always reload either of the other boot loaders.

As an example, I boot XP, one hard drive installed Linux *and* Grub4DOS.

Code: Select all

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows XP SP2" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect
C:\CMDCONS\BOOTSECT.DAT="Microsoft Windows Recovery Console" /cmdcons
C:\nix_bootsect.lnx="Other Linux"
C:\pup-sda2-btsect.lnx="Grub4DOS Image Chooser"
Xp's btldr is installed to the mbr, G4D installed on my second partition and the btldr of my other Linux is on my extended.

All I did is "dd" the boot code on those partitions, stick'm on the one with the mbr, then place pointers to those in boot.ini.

:D A little convoluted I know, but it works.
