X-Slacko-4.4 with Xfce

Hey, rg, long time no chat.

Two questions.

(1) is there any chance of the next non-beta being released with say glibc2.19 instead of 2.17?
(2) and when do you expect it to be released?

Reason I'm asking is that rcrsn51 is trying to blame my current printer problems on Caro Vanguard (which is out-and-out BS, it worked fine on the same system, same config, until I rebuilt my savefile due to some other issues I was having) and there's not much I can do other than switch back to X-Slacko if I want help. (I'd like to say a few things about that, but I'm in public.)

If your printer worked with Vanguard before you rebuilt your savefile why not just start over with a new one.

Glibc-2.21 is in the Slackware current repo:

Look in the "a" and "l" directory, if your try them please report back.

/etc/acpi/LID/00000080 is a symlink to /etc/acpi/actions/suspend.sh, I suppose you could try and rename it 00000080.bak or something and see if that works.

I've compiled xfce4-power-manager but never got it to work, same issue as you, "power manager is not running, do you want to start it?". I'll look into the missing libs for xfce4-power-manager-1.4.4.

If I recall correctly, the one that Geoffrey compiled for lina worked in X-slacko. I might be mistaken but give it a try anyway.

Re: savefile, that would be the third time this week, actually. Besides, I got the printer working finally anyways

I'll try the glibc upgrade and report back. Might be a minute before I do -- I've got a couple other things in front of that.

My guess is PPM or corrupted .pets. I got a lot of those on an NTFS partition.

xfce4-power-manager-1.2.0-i486-2 does not seem to work on my xSlacko, even tho downloaded from xSlacko ppm.

when i run it from whisker, i get

Xfce4 Power Manager is not running, do you want to launch it now?

So i click 'run' and then i do not see the Notification Area Icon.

if i again run it from whisker, i again get

is my xslacko damaged?

As I stated earlier, I get the same thing. I can compile it easily enough but it has never run in X-slacko. Not sure why, I can't track down the problem.

i'm using xslacko, and suddenly my desktop is in zoom mode. it's like when you change your resolution to a setting it cannot display, so you get a zoomed-in window, which auto-pans when you move your mouse around.

i must have hit some keyboard shortcut. not sure how to get out of it, but i like it! just want to know how to control it. maybe it's an xfce thing?

- but most k/b & mouse keys can be re-programmed on most OSes (yes, even 'doze). Not that I know how to do it, just that it can be done. Useful for those accursed laptops when the keys drop off. Unfortunately, I think it has to be done for every OS as I've not seen it in BIOS, although maybe it's there in a fully unlocked BIOS?

Zoom and pan with the Alt + mouse wheel seems to be a default built in to xfce.

Compiled Thunar-1.6.8, refresh issues seem to be sorted. DOC, DEV and NLS are seperate .pets.

Attempted to run both X-Slacko 2.3.2n and 3b7 on a tiny desktop I just finished building. Both have issues.

With 2.3.2n on USB, the cursor is a square of corrupted data roughly I'd say 96px square. There is nothing that I can find that fixes this. Also the modesetting driver is not found upon initial boot, yet appears present later (albeit with the issue described).

With 3b7, in addition to the previously mentioned cursor issue (which is not resolved yet), the 'intel' driver is available as well as modesetting -- but the 'intel' driver requires a reboot. Not wanting to put a savefile on my USB testing stick, I installed this version (and not 2.3.2n) to the internal SSD, only to find that the drive would not boot (no onscreen errors; the boot process just hangs) upon reboot. ext4, boot flag is set. I'm using grub4dos as included in 3b7. Drive is an Intel X25-M, 80gb in size. This may or may not be a BIOS issue.

Hardware in question is as follows:
Axiomtek PICO820 motherboard (rebranded as iGoLogic i2820)
Intel Atom Z530 CPU
Intel US15W chipset
Intel GMA500 (Poulsbo) integrated graphics
Integrated audio (Intel HD, I *think*)
Intel 80gb X-25M SATA2 SSD
Rosewill RNX-N180UBE Wireless Card (will need r8712u driver for this, if not available already -- I didn't get that far)
PS/2 keyboard and mouse, via USB-to-PS/2 adapter

X-Slacko 2.2 performs fine on an ext3 partition, when installed to the hardware described in my last post.

That's what it will run for now... although, rg, if you are interested in doing troubleshooting with 3b7 and whatever comes after the beta, I'm all ears

Finish resting up first, though... everybody deserves a vacation once in a while.
