Request, if possible, include that in the iso?

Just a thought, since 'frugal' install is an essential puppy thing, seems like puppy should know to ignore other frugals, imo.

thx!
That's an old version - 14.02 = Feb 2014 - hasn't been updated for some time - I really expect people to use the LxPupTahr versions non-retro pae.....I keep the non-pae retro version more up to date as that has a place for older hardware with an older kernel.

The Right Clicks option is included in the iso (however its an old version in LxPupPrecise-14.02) - menu -> desktop appearance -> options

Your boot should not be picking up savefiles belonging to other pups - different names - can't explain why it is - never does on my installs....

Precise flavours of LxPup can be found at:

Thx, can you give link to newest LxPrecise?

Tahr is newer, but I prefer Precise because it is peppier.

UPDATE: just letting peeps know that in private message with peebee, we figured out i am running the latest LxPrecise PAE, and there are no plans to update it. Sad, since to me Precise seems noticeably faster than Tahr. Planning to try Unicorn....

thx!

why i prefer lxprecise to lxtahr: stuff works.

lxtahr:

- after first reboot with save, frisbee did not auto connect, nor even load available networks. see pic showing could not connect on lxTarh. (might be cuz i need to blacklist wl module, dint check yet).

- could not load virtualbox sfs. see pic of error message trying to open virtualbox on lxTarh.

lxprecise: both worked, no problem. see pic showing good connection and vbox on lxPrecise.

pics in reverse order.

Semme - this link suggests the syntax:

Code: Select all

watch -d -n 1 ‘df; ls -FIAt;’
but it tells me the df command cannot be found. Does this work on your system?

I'm trying out LxPupThar15.03, and it's working just fine. Image Thanks. 8) EDIT: 1 crash so far.

I'm wondering what archives have compatible apps that I can installImage

Often this information is contained in the first few posts of a derivative's thread, but I can't see any mention so it must be thought so obvious that there's no need to point it out. Alas, not obvious to me. Image

Hi Semme. If that's the answer to my question, I don't think it's exactly what I'm after.

For example, I'd like to install mplayer and python, and perhaps Skype and Firefox.

PuppyPackageManager takes you to the appropriate repositories - both Puppy specific and Ubuntu Trusty Tahr.....

There is also QuickPet in TahrPup for most often installed applications....

A direct link to the Puppy repositories is:

I've created a wallpaper for this pup. A couple of others will follow soon:

I created the puppified LXDE logo as an idea I had in mind. I'll upload the logo separately as well soon.

Proposal for default LxPup openbox theme:

Image

Sticking to the base W8 theme, but all flat black, cyan buttons, and and "L" as the maximize button (see what I did there?)

I quite like LxPupTahr. Unlike some other recent Puplets, it does not auto-start things like Samba servers or WiFi managers. So you still have control over your own system.

It would be my recommendation for a non-ROX Puppy.

BTW, there have been some significant upgrades to PeasyScale and PeasyPort.

I wonder how many people try LxPup, cannot get their WiFi to work because of the Broadcom wl conflict, and abandon it. Here is a suggestion.

1. Do NOT include wl.ko in /lib/modules OOTB.

2. Make an installer for wl and put it in an on-board location like /opt/Broadcom.

3. Make a desktop shortcut that installs wl just for the users who want it.

Hi rcrsn51 - thanks for your comments - that probably is a good idea - I'll think about the best way to implement it - I'd like a prompt to appear at 1st boot to give people guidance on how to load the wl driver if they have Broadcom wifi.

Hi David - thanks for your various wallpapers and your openbox themes - wallpapers are very personal taste items so I try to include in the iso a few simple ones that are not too big and are maybe not too exciting but also not too 'marmite' (translation: you either love it or hate it - marmite).

When I get around to it I'll add an LxPup Backgrounds page to http://lx-pup.weebly.com/eye-candy.html and include your backgrounds so that people can download them if they want to.

Cheers

But they're easily disabled in the Puppy Startup Manager, right?

it was mine, until you told me about Vanguard-R2. xfce is clearly the most elegant, user-friendly, powerful wm, IMHO :)
