Other Distros
I installed Mint 17 XFCE4.
I've just started using it but it looks nice so far, the package
manager is impressive.

Re: Other Distros
I'm a month into daily (general home) use of both Mint 17 Xfce and Mate, dual-booting on this old 1.6 Ghz core duo, 1 Gb RAM laptop - still can't decide which one I prefer. Both are excellent! They just work, day in and out - solid, stable and trouble-free. Very efficient, too - idling @ 1-2% CPU with composting enabled and Screenlets, Wbar and Conky running on the desktop (eye candy ). Between the many choices available via both package manager and synaptic, can be easily built into about whatever one needs. Great release!Billtoo wrote:I installed Mint 17 XFCE4.

I like your desktop , I have both installed as well but I think xfce gets my vote.Moat wrote: I'm a month into daily (general home) use of both Mint 17 Xfce and Mate, dual-booting on this old 1.6 Ghz core duo, 1 Gb RAM laptop - still can't decide which one I prefer. This is a great release for sure.
Did a fresh install of Debian Jessie on an old P4.

I was curious to see how well Mint 17 xfce would run on an older pc so
I installed it on my hp pavilion a810n.

Memory 1534MB (643MB used)
Operating System Linux Mint 17 Qiana
Display
Resolution 1920x1080 pixels
OpenGL Renderer Gallium 0.4 on ATI RV530
X11 Vendor The X.Org Foundation
OpenGL

My main development box is an athlon X2 @ 3GHz.. but 4 GB RAM helps out a fair bit with RAM hungry distros. What is the actual clockspeed of "3300+"?
Puppy Linux Blog - contact me for access
Re: Other Distros
It's 2.4GHz, it's only a single core so it's working pretty hard, room for another 512mb ram which might help a bit.01micko wrote: My main development box is an athlon X2 @ 3GHz.. but 4 GB RAM helps out a fair bit with RAM hungry distros. What is the actual clockspeed of "3300+"?
EDIT:
Using Qupzilla instead of Chromium, Clementine instead of XBMC, especially if you have more than one app running makes a big difference.
