Open that "connect" icon on your desktop.
Next window, clk the third button- connect by network interface.
Next window, whatever the first button is, eth0 perhaps- clk it.
Next window (if you've gotten this far), test eth0.
If you get a confirmation, clk auto dhcp.
If you have internet- you're done.

Here's the other way..
Open your menu, go to system, then system schedule and open bootmanager.
In the window that opens, clk your third button down- add a new module.
In the next window, clk that 3c59x on the left and hit add.
OK the dialog, then quit boot configuration.
Reboot and try these again.

Didn't you mention that you were connecting the network card to a high speed router? Tha would be different than the modem, and should be detected.jobo wrote:no, still not fpound
the list in the boot manager hasnt got 3c59x on it
there is also a list of all the modom cards that are supported and the one i want isnt on that either,
Re: modems. Laptops often have WinModems, which are hit-or-miss for Linux support.
But I would focus on the network adapter instead.

indeed i did, does that cut the internal modom out of the equation
its an echolife hg520b, but as before all the other puppies ive tried see it, but not it seems this one, its 214 9 clasic if that matters but v10 doesnt see it either
ive also got an edimax wifi, but i was saving it for later, if that would be easier to set up than the ether net ?

Typically the wireless are slightly harder to set up than the land-lines. But if you have a decent wireless network adapter, it's worth a try. It's likely to be newer than the built in hardware, so it might have support.
Did you by any chance try Wary (yeah, I know it says "quirky", but this is Barry's collection):

BarryK also made special builds of Wary 5.1.1 with older kernels.
That's the most recent Wary version with this option.
