Jobo's 'setting up Puppy' thread
i went in to package manager, hit up date and got a list of pups to download, picker half a dozen and hit go, it then gave me a box with 4 buttons on it, i clicked one at random, a yellow box came up with a lot of fadst moving writing, i conformed down load and it installed them, then a box came up saying you package has been successfully installed but no entry was made in the menu ?sfeeley wrote:trying to be helpful, but you have give specific info. Include program names, and exactly where you got them (web address please!). If there is an error, say exactly what you tried, and what the error was. This will probably require taking notes as you go.ive down loaded a wi fi set up thing amongs a few others
Otherwise all we can offer are lousy guesses.
what happens when you try to cut and paste as I outlined?
Sometimes if a program doesn't appear in the menu, you can open it by going to the terminal and typing the program name (which might require some guesses)
It looks like there is a way to run tor as a portable app (yet another way to install programs!). I'm not positive if this will work, since I don't use tor
http://portablelinuxapps.org/forum/view ... p?f=5&t=65
its not one its 6 or more that have done this, making me suspect there is a box somewhere with them all in, i one a or two did install and put a menu entry in
the question is less about the wi fi, as where the hell are all these pups ?
Here's the idea behind copy'n paste. About the pups- you've gotta give some names- exact! ones at that..
Ahh.. for those dot pups rt-clk your desktop and look in <what else> dotpups!
Not all are gonna have a graphical interface..

Does your Pup desktop look like mine or are we on two different systems?
My package manager doesn't have an update feature..

I recall that there was a tor plugin for some of the browsers (I know that one existed for Firefox). Firefox might be too much browser for your limited RAM, however.jobo wrote:thanks
what about tor, is there a pup package for it does any one know
Edit: another thread going on about tor:

Yeah, Jobo-
Sfeeley and Retro's suggestion for that 2.1.4 Classic sound awesome, much better than what you're currently try'n to get go'in.. Why not toss that 2.1.6 and see if you can't get that baby run'n.. It is after all- just another dwnld away.. This is most likely the one you'd want- the latest.

installation should be more or less the same as you did with 2.1.6
edit: oops didn't notice that semme gave the link.

I think if you go1 the key board is wrong, im getting random numbers letters when i type
menu --> setup
there will be something like keyboard/mouse wizard which will allow you to set the keyboard. It may be that you have the wrong country/keyboard setup
But, it seems even more likely that you have accidentally hit the numberlock ( numlk) key on your keyboard. Press it again you should be fine.

Make sure your Num Lock is OFF. I had the same problem when I tried running 2.14x Classic on this old notebook.
Having read your other thread I think your best option would be Wary 5.3. It runs brilliantly on my old notebook (see sig for specs).
My last piece of advice, stick with it. I made the switch to Linux only a while ago but would never go back to the mainstream.
If you have trouble burning cd's as previous correspondents have said, surely a friend, family, library or school would help out.

Dell Optiplex760 8Gb RAM 256Gb SSD+500Gb HDD(Now running Bionicpup64)
yes sorted key board
but what about the driver issue ?
am i right in thinking that the designer hasnt included a driver for which ever modum i have in this machine, where as the 2.1.6 distro has such a driver ?
there for would it be possible to transfered the drivers from one to other other, or are they version specific ?
there is a thread in the how to section about doing this with the sfs file from another distro and blanking off the bits you dont want, but its a bit over my head, couldnt i just load the drivers from one onto a memery stick and tranfere them to classic
has any one done something of this nature, should i post in another section of the board with this question
