Linux 3.0.3 with Aufs3, BFS, 64/32 bit kernel, PAE, etc. |
|
Uses new-for-3.0 Aufs3. Uses Iguleder's idea for compiling a 64-bit kernel with 32-bit emulation so 64-bit apps can be compiled. Also includes Pemasu's IcePuppy kernel enhancements, like PAE, highmem, etc.

Wow, thought they banned you after you left.
I don't feel like I can discuss my position on what happened without a flamewar erupting, so if you are interested, feel free to PM me. I will not be the starter of another big mess.
That said, I'd be interested in hearing more about what this is -- I cannot for the life of me figure out what this *.pet does. But then, I'm still a noob of sorts.
That reminds me, time to take something out of my sig. I'm tired of staring at what I abandoned in frustration something like six months ago.

Downloading the pet now. I've already grabbed the tar.gz earlier and installed to an Spup install........haven't had a chance to really test yet though. Thanks for uploading it.
starhawk. the pet changes the kernel, drivers, firmware etc. to the new 3.0.3 kernel replacing the default Puppy kernel.

I'm not sure myself.
But this .pet backs up your current kernel configuration, and installs the new 3.0.3 kernel. It also places an uninstall script in your root folder to put things back as they were. It's only for full hard drive installations. May have issues with the latest Aufs3 patch, still checking.
Edit: I see someone has already explained it. Oh well.

Ah That's rather nifty, there. I do believe that you are a good bit ahead of me with the software end of things. I am seriously impressed
Is there a way to make one of these for Frugal installs?
EDIT: l0wt3ch, check your PMs when you get a minute. No pressure, just being friendly.

Exciting development - this kernel version should have the Fusion APU drivers.
If you happen to build an ISO and you want an upload site, just PM me.

It's still very experimental, and it seems it may need another aufs patch. It can create and extract sfs packages, but clicking on an sfs package gives an error about being "version 4", even after using the sfs-version-updater changes the sfs to version 3.

@ Tasmod: Not sure if I'm supposed to be here. If this thread disappears, the links to my source etc. will still be up over there.
@ Amigo: Yes, I will. Just not this second, I have to catch a plane!

The instructions I posted here were incorrect, so I have deleted them.
It looks like I have sorted out the difficulties with Aufs3, and it's down to finding a certain pet package in woof to adjust for the 3.0 kernel versioning and I'll be able to release a bunch of stuff.

You have never been banned, or even warned, so what are you talking about ?
I also don't understand why you didn't reproduce the links here ...

John I think Lowtech wrote this thread that I link to as a kind of
Sorry hope it is okay to be back.
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=70967
And many of the regulars do welcome him back so we do give him slack to adjust and feel at home.
Not so easy to find good words after being hot tempered and storming out.
I can be very hot myself so I think it was a strong comeback saying such things. So I wish him the best for the future.

I too welcome him back. I don't remember exactly what caused him to leave (I remember the hullaballoo, just not the cause) and as such find no grounds for telling him to shove off. So I won't.
FWIW, I hope that other members, if they still feel bristly about l0wt3ch, are willing to forgive him and ask his forgiveness as well. I'm not much of a religious person, but I seem to recall that there's something somewhere in a popular religion about "forgiving trespasses" and having same forgiven as well.
