237 usage report
I am using this on a day to day basis
Every time I run the computer I have to run the
audio wizard. If I am trying to run a youtube/flash video, I have to run the wizard twice. The bottom right audio icon and the woof woof bark is very helpful.
The new ATI radeon graphic driver whilst allowing me to run compiz in KDE has effected flash. If I try and run full screen I get not a 'black screen of death' but a white one (never seen that before)
- in that situation press ctrl + alt + backspace
and type xwin jwm
at prompt (most will know this)
Before running the ATI driver, Seamonkey was very stable - now it has a tendency to crash.
If dragging .ASF video files into gnomeplayer
the video comes and disappears and I get audio only . . .
Being aware of the above I am able to use 237 very well
Thanks guys

Thanks for reply. I tried, but Gericom has an lousy support. Nothing for Linux. I also searched some other manufacturers without success til now.bigpup wrote:Found this info about mobility video card driver support at AMD web site. Basic statement, get the driver from the manufacturer of the computer.
My hope is increasing If there is anything I can do or test, please let me know.Sit Heel Speak wrote:@Rolf:(ah, never mind, I've had time now to look it up)
BTW and OT: I'm glad that Nantucket Clipper isn't completely forgotten. It was my first (and nearly only) attempt to learn a programming language.

Raspberry Pi without Puppy? No, thanks.

Samba
Finally, i got success with shared printer via samba.
My problem is the linux driver does not work.
But i realized the Windows client do not use the linux driver but of Windows.
Updated SFS.
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=60836
Easy to set up shared folder almost out-of-the-box.
Sharing printer is not so easy but as for the samba settings, the SFS has well prepared cofig file sample.
I recommend rcrsn51's Samba-TNG for PET.

icons and program problems
Hello, I am a senior member of puppy and are passed
from relise 4.3.1 to 5.1.1 and then the luci-237.
By doing this, I saw that the desktop is changed as follows:
Standard icons have disappeared (see the pic).
The program xplns does not start (see the pic)
icon in the icon tray bar of the opera program appears to work but is confused.(see the pic)
I'm sure that there is a simple solution, but I was not able to
find it.
Am looking forward to your help. Thanks in advance.

Lucid Puppy 5.2 Base Luci-237 New Version NOV 13
I have 237 installed to a 4gb flash drive.
This pc has an ATI Radeon X1600PRO PCIE graphics card installed in it.
I bought the card 3-5 years ago (can't remember) but it's considered a
"legacy" card by ATI as far as the commercial driver is concerned so
I'm using the Xorg_High-1.1-Lucid driver in quickpet.
# report-video
VIDEO REPORT: Lucid Puppy, version 237
Chip description:
oem: ATI ATOMBIOS
product: RV530 01.00
Driver used by Xorg:
Video mode used by Xorg:
Resolution: Depth:
...the above also recorded in /tmp/report-video
# glxgears
14904 frames in 5.0 seconds
14949 frames in 5.0 seconds
14913 frames in 5.0 seconds
14877 frames in 5.0 seconds
14962 frames in 5.0 seconds

So while the commercial driver is great for the newer ATI cards the
Xorg_High-1.1-Lucid driver works great for "legacy" cards.

Stu90, tazoc and I are working on this. I believe tazoc does it all with a file in /root/Startup.Having a bit of trouble with( AMD k CPU scaling tool requiring to reset it each boot .
My recommendation is to wait for luci-238 and see if it works as it should out of the box. Thanks.

new wacom driver
I was successful with the new wacom tablet driver of charlie6
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... &start=135
installing with wacom bamboo tablet.
I tried it on lupq511 and luci236 and it now
allows the proper shutdown procedure
so that a pupsave file can now be created.

mtpaint 3.34.57 works when the tablet preferences are
set up in the following manner....
Set 'stylus' to 'screen'
The other tools leave disabled.
Don't forget to tick 'opacity' and 'size'
or the pressure effect won't be seen .

Karl built a gxine pet because it works better to click on internal links in the video (as I understand it). It is mainly for DVD's. Some of hte audio formats don't play. It is in PPM. Thanks.About gxine :
I collected all the needed files from the last gxine dpup -005

The existing Xorg_High driver in quickpet works very well . . . except in combination with compiz. The existing driver works but the wobbly windows (for example) are moving too slow and jerky to be realisticaly employed.Yes.
And the Xorg_High driver might even be less troublesome for some newer cards (see Lobster's recent post).
CUPS-SAMBA printer (SOLVED)
As far as I know (at this point) ALL SAMBA implementations from Shinobar/Mobeus/Rcrsn51 work!
This means that any PUP5.2 that utilitzes either of the SAMBAs (be it a PET or a SFS) will have a PUP that can do EVERYTHING a Microsoft PC or many of the other Linux distros do...FULLY for its LAN users! This includes print server functions with CUPS, as well.
For administrators, this means you can now set up a PUP5.2 that will allow you to avoid the $1000 - $10000 you would have to pay for a file/print/PDC/BDC/AD server. And its appears to run SUPER!
Go forth PUPPY enthusiast! These 3 Muscateers have blessed us with SuperDog proportions.
And to the Puppy antagonist, you will have to decide if you want your appraoch to provide this for newbie users to have out of the box or not!
