Working sound settings not saved with Puppy 5.1.1

I'm confused by this. When I start up Puppy Lupu I only have mono audio (and the cooling fan doesn't work). If I run Alsa Sound Wizard then I get stereo audio and the fan comes on.

However, on reboot I get mono audio and no fan again. I haven't encountered an audio issue with earlier Puppies or the Quirky/Wary line but I did have no fan in the Puppy 2 and 3 days and had to use modprobe thermal.
