And here's fluxbox /w fluxconf if anyone wants:
fluxbox-1.1.1-i686-dpup.pet

Tell me if I missed something in menu. BTW, anyone can come up with menu refresh script for fluxbox? I know pupflux has one but it's written in puppybasic.

Hi, dejan555!

Well, for the user's benefit, you could provide puppybasic in your pet, or a link to the puppybasic pet proper. That's what Mark Ulrich did for his MUQuickmount, for example. Besides, a lot of puppyists have a previous install of puppybasic.

So now all the popular window managers are meeting for a conference at the Dpup Club! :D That's great! The more, the merrier!

Hmm, well, there's menu editor in fluxconf, but I was thinking more of a bash or perl script or some C app if some developer could come up with so we don't add more extra stuff that would be used just for fluxbox menu, I'm not sure if there's puppybasic pet and how big it is but I'll look.

As 01micko reminded us in the previous thread I think, there's fixmenus in /usr/sbin. As a temporary solution, run fixmenus, then restart the WM? fluxbox will then reread (update) what's there. Just a thought.

I'd help, but as such I'm not a dev or programmer, just an "extreme configuration" kind of guy. Maybe ask jemimah in a PM? He created a nice script for the wmx menu.

dejan555,

Would the code here be of interest to you for fluxbox?

Hmm, thanks, I'll take a look, but I think fixmenus as is only refreshes jwm and icewm menus.

Hi, everyone.

I've just uploaded a revised pet for pekwm 0.1.11, http://dpup.org/musher0/pekwm-0.1.11_dpup.pet, which includes plinej's jwm2pekwm menu converter. Thanks, plinej. His adapted fixmenus is also included. This solves very nicely pekwm's menu situation for Puppy and dpup.

Thanks also to magerlab on thread "pekwm *new window manager pakcagefor puppy*" http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 922#369922 for bringing this to my attention.

pekwm eh?

Looks nice on my Eee 701!

Doing some tweaks, but I must admit I've only dabbled in the mainstream wms... but this looks very useful, without any other panels, they get in the way on a tiny screen.

Nice job

Cheers :wink:

Don't laugh too much... :( I just discovered that with the jwm2pekwm script pekwm's new initial functions disappeared. Namely the window goto and the theme chooser that were in the original pekwm menu. So I've come up with a script to re-establish them.

Code: Select all

#!/bin/sh
# manip_menu_pekwm.sh
# musher0, 8 décembre 2009

# 1) On nettoie la place.
rm /root/.pekwm/menu*
sleep 0.5s
# 2) On met à jour le(s) menu(s).
/usr/sbin/fixmenus &
sleep 13s
# Patience ! Ça prend le temps que ça prend !
# 3) On recompose le menu en restituant les autres fonctions du
# menu original de pekwm (la manip comme telle).
cd /root/.pekwm
more /root/.pekwm/menu >/root/.pekwm/menu0.txt &
sleep 0.5s
more /root/.pekwm/backup/goto_pekwm.txt >>/root/.pekwm/menu0.txt &
sleep 0.5s
more /root/.pekwm/backup/window_menu.txt >>/root/.pekwm/menu0.txt &
sleep 0.5s
cp -f /root/.pekwm/menu0.txt /root/.pekwm/menu &
sleep 0.5s
rm /root/.pekwm/menu0.txt &
# 4) On annonce que c'est fait à l'utilisateur !
yaf-splash -text " |\ Terminé ! /|\  Finished! /|" -outline 0 -fg DarkSeaGreen2 -bg AntiqueWhite4 -timeout 6 -margin 30 -bd DarkSeaGreen2
# 5) On repart pekwm !
restartwm
Sorry if the notes are not translated, too tired, I'm in a bad need of shut-eye right now. For now, just follow the bash code, it's a language too! :)

The name of that file is "manip_menu_pekwm.sh", suggested to be saved in /root/.pekwm. You'll run it as "./manip_menu_pekwm.sh". Note the usr of the dot and forward-slash. It takes about 20 seconds to do a proper job of recomposing the menu, no way around that, sorry. And then it restarts pekwm.

I actually de-boned the parts of the initial pekwm menu, shelved them in a new /backup dir. Now as you can see, after fixmenus has finished its job, the "bones" are "re-jointed" again, but to the updated puppy menu, in order to compose a working menu.

The new-new pet should be in the dpup repo in five.

PS. (edit): I suggest you run the "manip" script above at least the first time you run pekwm, and then every time you notice the menu is missing some of the functions (after you installed some new program). Not very elegant, but best solution I can come up with at present. Improvements, anyone?

=-=-=-=-=
@dejan555
I'm not promising anything, but after some sleep, I'll see if this approach can be used for the fluxbox menu.

Video Resolution

#355 Post by nic2109 »

Hello everyone. Just a quick note to congratulate the dpup team.

This is the first ever Puppy (well, since 2.11 when I started trying them all out) that has displayed on my laptop at the correct resolution of 1440 x 900 straight out of the box. :D

I've always has to install one of the Catalyst driver .pets before, so thanks and well done!

Additional praise and thanks....

.. and what's more CUPS finds my network attached printer without any intervention either. I almost fell off my chair! :D :D :D :D :D

This is almost too much happiness for one week.

Session not saved

#356 Post by Béèm »

The issue of 'session not saved' on my Thinkpad R40 kept spinning in my mind.
So I decided to do some more investigation.
To recall, I don't burn a CD, but make a new directory on sda1 for the new version, copy the contents of the new ISO to that directory and make a new entry in the menu.lst for the new one.

Test 1
To start clean, I boot with pfix=ram.
I had the idea to look into pupstate after such a boot.
Pupmode=5 (ok thus)
pdev1=''
pmedia=''
At this point didn't know if these last two are correct.

Test 2
Then I burned a CD-RW and booted with pfix=ram
Now I have in pupstate:
pupmode=5 (ok thus)
pdev1='sr0'
pmedia='usbcd'
When shutting down, I got the panel to save to a save file.

Ok so far.

Test 3
Then I had the idea to boot from sda1 again, but this time with pfix=ram and subdir=dpup482b5 (the directory where the beta 5 files are.
Now I get in pupstate:
pupmode=5 (ok thus)
pdev1='sda1'
pmedia= 'forgot to note'
But, when shutting down I got the panel to create a save file, which I did on mnt/home (sda2)
Hurrah.

Test 4
So I rebooted with only psubdir=dpup482b5
Now the just created save file wasn't seen. In fact no previously saved save file was seen.
OK good to know.

Test 5
I started again without options on the kernel line and boot went ok, the save file created in test 3 was seen and I could use it.

Conclusion:
For some reason in the way I work with the Lin'N'Win method, rc.shutdown doesn't act correctly, but I can do it behave with a one shot of sudir=xxxxx on the kernel line at first boot to get the option to create a save file.

I am not knowledgeable at all to understand the script coding, so can't diagnose further, but I am happy that I have a circumvention now, without having to burn a CD.
Time savers:
Find packages in a snap and install using Puppy Package Manager (Menu).

Hello.

If you have downloaded and tested the pekwm-0.1.11 pet file from http://www.dpup.org/musher0/pekwm-0.1.11_dpup.pet yesterday and earlier today, you may have noticed that the start-up was buggy. Sorry about that: I was tired, and I had left an example start-up file that I was working on, as the regular start file.

I have just corrected that oversight, and reinstated the default start file. Please download again if you did so yesterday and re-test. The pekwm wm v. 0.1.11 should work very well now in dpup. Let me know? Thanks. Again my apologies for the inconvenience to those who downloaded it yesterday and earlier today.

BFN.

hmmm

so I dragged ffplay to the box when I chose the run action... worked as expected.

It was ok when I tested pfix=ram.. so I don't know what broke it. This pupsave is fairly clean, only installed icewm and the service pack.
