this forum is really a pain...

#1 Post by costal martignier »

this forum (the forum it's self and the webserver/database) are extreem slow, and there are many many "timeouts", often the server does'nt respond!

this is really really anoying, and absoluteley not productiv...

i have a really fast adsl, but i don't know if i would stay on puppy if i have a slow modem conection.

the forumsoftware is sooo bad and slow programmed.
when i load the forum homepage, i must download ~40KB...

i think here must be done something...

everithing absolutley IMHO

I am sure John Murga will welcome your donation to help afford what he is providing to the rest of us for FREE!

Or if you want you can set up a really fast forum and we can migrate over to it.

Well, I do have to admit it's getting slow, but like the above person says: money is needed to change such thing ;-)

Out of curiosity: what is the forum hosted on? Is it on a personal server, or by a hosting company?

And what's the monthly bandwidth usage?

please think a little bit in the feature.
for now there are not really many peoples at the same time browsing this forum.

puppy is really really great, and in the near feature t's userbase will grows permanently, and the forum comes slower and slower...

i'm totaly new to puppy, put i like it and i'm allready developig many thigs for it, if i decide to stay with puppy i'm willing to donate bandwith and serverspace..

best regards

Thanks, Costal. As to bandwidth, 40 GB/month for shared hosting.

when i have luck i can get a root server, with unlimited bandwith, and 80GB webspace :)

i'm willing to host the forum and (feature) mailinglists when this comes ready...
or perhaps we can make a sharing, database here and webpage on my server, or the other way...

Trading Post

I'm not sure what would be most needed though.
Maybe a trading post - where people come for very specific needs and Puppy enthusiasts offer their services. Why, some kids here are willing to offer special paper made from bamboo leaves and embossed with Puppy :) (er, that's just an example) Another is the packaging for public schools of arcexplorer (GIS browser) in Puppy. These are things that may be beyond the usual boundaries of voluntary work (well, really, all work can be made voluntary  ).
