Put the desired .jpg image in /usr/share/backgrounds, then use the Desktop Wallpaper setter. In the Puppy 2 series the image filename had to contain no spaces, e.g. "Mount_Rainier.jpg" not "Mount Rainier.jpg" but I don't know if that has been fixed in 4.

@J08NS:

I think this is what you asked:

"How to change my desktop wallpaper on Puppy 4.00 with a downloaded file?"

The answer:
download and copy the file to /usr/share/backgrounds

Go to wallpaper selector (switcher) from the desktop menu and you will have this wallpaper in the list.

If I did not understand your question correctly, I am sorry. Please explain.

8) For me to copy saved bitmap image in /usr/share/backgrounds I must type that location in box ? and then click save to ? THen go to switcher and select it . That may be what is confusing me I am used to click location not typing it in . And must it be a jpg format file ? Is the typing of file name how ? Thanks ! I am afraid I will have to have detailed description for now as to saving this file and have this work .
Thanks : )

Hi 8) , I managed to change the wallpaper finally by ...
1. dragging it from dvd-r file I had it saved to to the desktop.
2. dragging from desktop to Rox file manager.
3. dragging it from Rox file manager to wallpaper setter .
4. then changing to that choice .
5. clicked apply and to my amazement it is now my favorite Puppy 4.00
wallpaper !! :)
And can you recommend a semi simple reference  to using puppy 4.00

filesystem for the first time  . basic to under stand . J08NS 8)

Its good that you were able to do it yourself.

You can find lots of useful links and resources at the below forum thread:
