Could you give us some details on how installing the Nvidia driver got sound working?
What did you have to do for sound device selection, setup, Retrovol Mixer, etc.....?
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected

sorry bigpup, I'm rubbish at info sharing info aren't I...

nvidia driver download from here: http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/pe ... x86_64.pet courtesy of perdido's research

this pet installed correctly, rebooted, however still no sound

menu>setup>alsa sound wizard then multiple cards, it was still pointing to the motherboard intel sound card

in addition the list has 4 nvidia cards, card 1, hdmi 1,2,3,4 (from memory but could have been 0,1,2,3)

selected first nvidia entry followed by test sound, no output, again for second entry, still no sound, selected 3rd nvidia entry, test sound with successful hdmi sound out to the monitor

I didn't try the fourth entry

the good news is it works but there is very little control available to the mixer, just volume, no line controls etc as you normally get in the mixer controls

annoyingly the sound quality from the monitor is horrendous but that's not my problem!!

I will attempt to do the same with fatdog64 but have a HP laptop I have to get working for him too

thanks all

:)
