Why Windows 10 Sucks or Everything Wrong with Windows

#1 Post by labbe5 »

https://itvision.altervista.org/why-win ... sucks.html

Firstly, Microsoft openly stated that pervasive data Microsoft: 'We finally fixed everything in Windows 10' View this page source code to find the source of this picture collection will be present in any Windows version starting from Windows 10, and as a host of research on the Internet shows, this data collection cannot be disabled using official means. If you decide to disable total tracking (including keyboard scanning and voice recording) you'll have to disable over a hundred different Internet addresses and then no one guarantees that a new Windows update doesn't add new hosts because Microsoft surely is not interested in losing such a lucrative feature meant for Big Brother agencies.

I've read somewhere that Microsoft are working on a seriously cut-down version of Windows 10. I think it will be popular especially if one can run it on older systems.

That is Windows 10 s.

I have it on a new laptop I got over Christmas.

The big issue I have with it. You can only install software from the Windows Store.
Drivers can only come from Windows 10 driver database.
You can only use Windows Edge for browsing.
Cannot use any other search engine than Bing.

However it made possible to get a full featured 11" laptop with 4GB memory and a decent processor for $129 US.
Windows 10 s is suppose to cost very little for manufacturers to put it on laptops.
They probably figure the money will be made from the Windows Store.

Puppy installs on this laptop and runs great.
We are Puppy.
Resistance is futile!

Windows 10 s is suppose to be Windows answer to Chrome OS.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

cthisbear,

Thanks for the links, but those do not apply to Windows 10 s.

Windows 10 s is not the normal full release of Windows 10.
Notice the name Windows 10 S.

Windows 10 s is locked to a set setup for getting Software only from the Windows Store.
The ability to change this is not in Windows 10 s.

Windows 10 s is suppose to be a cut down version of Windows 10, that is light on the hardware and battery usage, designed for low feature computer laptops similar to a Chrome Book.

It is designed to provide a low priced laptop, with a Windows 10 like OS, to compete with Chrome Books.
But the laptop works great with Puppy Linux.

There is a way to change Windows 10 S to Windows 10 PRO or Home, but I do not really care.
I use Puppy Linux.

How to Upgrade from Windows 10 S to Full Windows

Hit Windows Key + X then select System from the menu that appears.

Scroll down and click "Change product key or switch to Windows 10 Pro"
(on yours it might be "Windows 10 Home").

Click "Go to Store." You'll be transported to a page in the Windows Store.

Using Puppy Linux Bionicpup64 7.9.8

Did not get it from Windows Store.

The Windows Store does not seem to offer Puppy Linux.
I tried!

Really? It will not allow you to to make an alternative browser and search engine the DEFAULT, that's all.

Windows has just got too big, nothing seems ever to be removed.
Win 7 still had drivers for Toshiba 286 laptops, and they are probably still there in Win 10
M$ has put things in windoze because they can, wether anyone uses those functions or not.

No.
Windows 10 S is locked to Edge and Bing.
Only can get added software from Microsoft Store.

However, they seem to be willing to let you convert Windows 10 S to Windows 10 PRO or Home version.
These will let you change defaults and add any software from anyplace.

Again, Windows 10 S seems to be Microsoft's answer to fight Chrome OS. Not sure what they charge a computer manufacture for Windows 10 S, but it must not be much.
The HP 11 Stream computer, with Windows 10 S, was only $129 US.

This does not work to change the default search engine? https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/115 ... -10-a.html
Alternatively - how about accessing another search engine via bing and then using it. Surely you only need the correct site address of the alternative search engines to use it or are they blacklisted?

Thanks fo info!

I am not trying to figure out how to make Windows 10 S work like a normal OS.
Just telling you what it is.

I am using Puppy Linux and do not care about Windows 10 S, Pro, Home, Whatever

Here is a FAQ for Windows 10 S
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/hel ... s-mode-faq

Windows 10 S seems to be how Windows is getting put on a computer that would normally be made to use Chrome OS.

I am sure this HP 11 Stream would have been offered as a Chrome book if they could not put Windows 10 S on it.

The big thing was with Windows 10 S on it. They used a normal UEFI bios and not one of those Chrome OS bios's.
So I call that a good thing.
Getting the bios to boot Puppy Linux was easy.
Legacy boot option in the bios.

The Chrome Book I have, that I converted to Puppy Linux, was a big piece of junk for the bios.
I had to flash a new different bios on it, just to be able to boot something other than Chrome OS.
To get Puppy on the internal drive you have to remove a lockout screw from the motherboard.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

Fresh Start

#18 Post by labbe5 »

https://fossbytes.com/how-i-removed-blo ... indows-10/

I use Windows once a year, for tax purposes. As me, you may need Windows 10 once in a while, for games, tax purposes, for apps you can not live without.

But how about removing bloatware from it? Easy.

Many people who use Windows 10 as their daily driver often try to find ways to remove bloatware from Windows 10 or any other OS for that matter. For those who don’t know, the term bloatware is used to refer to the unnecessary apps and software that come preloaded on OS and create a mess.
Some common examples of bloatware are the tons of software that our PC makers don’t hesitate to put in their laptops and desktops, although not all of them are totally useless.
So, what can be done to debloat Windows 10 and clear the clutter on your computer? One possible way is to open the Control Panel and delete all the apps you don’t need. But that would be tedious, and while doing so, someone might end up removing an important app as well.
Thankfully, Microsoft has included a robust Windows 10 bloatware removal tool that can kick out the apps you don’t need.

The tool is officially known as Fresh Start, and as the name hints, it will reset your machine and install only the stuff that’s required to run Windows 10.
Honestly speaking, I have known about this tool for quite some time now. But I recently got to see it in action when my PC slowed down to the limit where it took 15 minutes to load all the apps after booting. That was the point where my patience broke, and I got rid of all the bloatware apps on my HP laptop.

If you really do not care about Windows, why do you keep bringing it up and complaining about it??

It is almost as if you are frightened that it really is better!
