Any luck with the GVFS problem...?

Also: just curious, what *is* GVFS and what does it do?

Kind of an odd request. I need LO 3.5.4 (or similar) to deal with a horizontal rule issue due to the way handling those changed at the beginning of LibreOffice's 4.x.x offerings... Unfortunately, on my copy of X-Tahr 1b3, LO throws an exception of some eccentric and cryptic sort if I try and run it;...

I have to confess -- I did not know of the Austrailians' involvement...

Good, er, point about the rocket jet... I didn't know about that, either. Makes sense to me, though.

'ey Don, that's Luke's (Puppy handle 'lkcl') own website -- Luke being the guy who started this whole thing and is the primary developer.

Unbelievable though it may sound, he's been working on the EOMA-68 standard for ten freaking years...

Speaking to #2 -- almost certainly there were two different cameras, one for stills and one for video. Even with modern digital cameras, the resolution changes dramatically when you go from still to video or vice versa. Mind you, the stuff in 1969 would probably be more akin to a Kodak of that era, ...

Boot from your LiveCD or LiveUSB disk. Reformat your target drive to ext3 with gparted. (...or ext4 if using a 6xx-series Pup.) MAKE SURE YOU SET THE BOOT FLAG. (Right click on the partition, "Manage Flags", click the entry for 'boot', done.) Open your boot disk directory (/mnt/sdx1 for US...

@Pelo -- to "bump" a thread is to post in it with little or no useful content, but by doing so bring it to the top of the thread list. Usually the point of a thread-bumping post is expressly to bring it to the top, so that people will be aware of it, since it's suddenly relevant again (at ...

To add to this discussion a little. My mother used to have a laptop that just about made me foam at the mouth whenever I had to upgrade it. HP Compaq tc4200. She now has its successor, the tc4400, and it is an equally infuriating chunk of horrible. The problem is inherent in the chassis design. See,...

Windows: Bug from 1997 now a problem

Here's one for you scaredy cats... http://hackaday.com/2016/08/02/microsoft-live-account-credentials-leaking-from-windows-8-and-above/ NOTE: "hack" in Hackaday's title refers principally to the bodging together of electronics for purposes of self-entertainment. Nothing to do with 'hacking'...

Well, most Kickstarters don't go very well, even the ones that get their money...

...so they're sort of destined for trouble of one sort or another anyways...

...so, since it's kind of inevitable that they'll get a few stormclouds in front of their sunniness... might as well ;)

@ solo -- haha, um. Intel is discontinuing the SoC Atom chips -- including the one they're trying to use there. I've heard this now from several people I trust. I hope, for their sake, that Ockel has a 'plan b'... otherwise they're just contributing to the already-immense pile of Kickstarter failure...

nubc, I think what you're mostly missing is the point of this. You know what a CardBus card is, like for WiFi, right? Imagine putting a computer in that, that can drive separate keyboard, storage, display, etc. When the CardBus card gets old, you get rid of it (either by recycling or giving to Aunt ...

*I* can answer that one. Totally different chip. ARM is not like x86, where there's a very broad base set of safe expectations amongst modern chips. Some ARM chips are microcontrollers, like an Arduino but slightly (and only slightly) more powerful. NXP's LPC1114 is notable for being in a 28-pin DIP...

...what is it about this thread...? I missed your post because of Mike's, now... weird, I'm usually more attentive than that.

@Mike -- as asked -- so what happened to the MiniDisc player?

@Pete -- Thanks :)

@Mike -- what happened to it? I must confess, I've wanted a minidisc player for a while now... too expensive, though, even when used...
