PostPosted: Wed 19 Aug 2015, 07:02    Post subject:  Realtek RTL8192CU WiFi Drivers for Puppy - Look Here First

The in-kernel versions of this driver have often been wonky, although it may finally be stable in recent kernels like Tahrpup. However, drivers built from the vendor sources work well. There are PET packages scattered around the forum for various Puppies.

As a convenience, I have posted a collection of 8192cu drivers here. You may need to blacklist the in-kernel rtl8192cu driver using System > Bootmanager.

Be aware that these drivers are kernel-specific. They will NOT work in non-PAE or retro Puppies.

If you have trouble with drop-outs, create the file /etc/modprobe.d/8192cu.conf with the line
Code:
options 8192cu rtw_power_mgnt=0 rtw_enusbss=0

Or get stay-connected.

Courtesy of tempestuous, there is a k2.6.33.2 version for Lupu 528 posted here.

Excellent. I also have a version for Fatdog. The in-kernel version was reported to work, so I never posted it. Maybe the vendor version would work even better.

PostPosted: Fri 21 Aug 2015, 12:17    Post subject: Racy 5.3 (Kernel 3.0.25)

i bookmarked this topic for Racy 5.3 (Kernel 3.0.25) because not only Racy is one of my prefered Puppies, but i have switched the kernels of a dozen Lucid Puppies to 3.0.25 to allow them to connect wireless.
Lucid puppies 528..5 advanced have kernel 3.0.25 too (Sulu)
PS ;
Maybe the vendor version would work even better.
Some recent Puppies connect wlan 1 (ASRI EDU 310 precise 5.7.1 as exemple) getting rate reach 70, but with your pet quite 100.
For me, at my house or around, 40 is enough, but 100 means that if i go away in the country, i will remain connected longer. Heu, i think...

For users of Puppy 431 and its variants like Toutou, I have posted 8192cu_puppy_431-k2.6.30.5.pet above.

This works well in PWF. But you don't get a tray icon so you have to run it from the Network menu. In /root/Startup, delete the file peasywifi_tray.

Excellent. Are you having any problems with drop-outs, or is the connection stable?

PostPosted: Sat 16 Jan 2016, 18:45    Post subject: Thanks

A big vote of thanks to rscrn51 for the collection of drivers at the head of this post. It saved me a lot of time. The 3.14.55 driver works for me on Slacko 6.3 with the Edimax 7811 nano-USB wifi dongle. As expected I needed to blacklist the default RTL8192cu driver. All is well. Thanks again.
