Terminal as Puppy PC
BarryK wrote: The one they sent me has a 128M CF card (direct IDE connection, so it's fast) and 256M RAM. Let me repeat the question lest it's forgotten :) What does Barry think of the minimum flash and RAM memory required for this machine to run Puppy? (for day-to-day work, that is) PS - for the p...

Let us try this PHP package
This is a PHP service for Monkey that i compiled and tried last February using Slackware tools. I tried it using the current Monkey dotpup and i get a "PHP works!" message. Why don't you try it? It is v. 4.3.+ which is generally adequate for using interactive pages. Feel free to make a dot...

HD install (repeat post)
Re-post for Freedom: Use version 1.03 for that (as there is a kernel problem in version 1.02). Partitioning (and resizing of partition 1) of the hard drive is required, which you can easily do with cfdisk (at the terminal). But as Freedom gives away old PCs, he can use the whole hard disk. In that c...

You can!
Of course you can install Puppy to hard disk. Use version 1.03 for that (as there is a kernel problem in version 1.02). Server and Client in One?
Let me try again: with Puppy, this kind of machine will be able to perform day-to-day tasks (just like a PC), and also function as server the way we now can use Puppy as a server in PC. In other words, we have no need to go through all the server-client configuring hassles. The machine can be both c...

Fast!
Ummm, a highly qualified server already, especially for small networks, what do you think? (At least, I will try to get PHP and Monkey working in that environment as server.)

Why not
Yes, of course, although am not sure if the company is already shipping Puppy in it. They are focused on clients, but with Puppy, that gadget becomes a PC, and possibly a server, too.
Puppy runs quick in 300 Mhz, but that terminal runs at over 400 Mhz, no fan, no hard disk - just right for Puppy!

User nobody
I read "user_nobody" from your first post. I wonder, as i know it is user "nobody". And, yes, you have to "chown -R" all files to the owner "nobody:nobody". However, pls check if it is not "nobody:nogroup" in the server config. Just another wild gues...

Teacher's CMS (or Everyone's CMS)
At the time Puppy is version .98, I was able to package a simple CMS useful for teachers (and anybody wanting to do simple Web publishing), but it uses Apache and PHP. I want to use Puppy as the server, that is why am very eager to get PHP working on Puppy (using the Monkey server). Guestoo seems to...

$100 PC using Puppy becoming a reality
News about Brazil intending to produce a $100 laptop for education is all over. Now a company called DevonIT has finally taken notice of Puppy. Barry provided this link which shows a $149 thin client - it's very close to a $100 PC! http://www.ntavo.com/ntaterminal.php Would you know of other compani...

Server + PHP
So if i may clarify, is bladehunter saying, "the monkey server is already there in Guestoo's dotpups, and all the user needs is to add the PHP package to it"?
I've seen the recent posts of bladehunter, and i wish him well in his future ventures...

A small ethernet
Could we try the usual, small network with dial-up, usually using 192.168.0.1 as gateway. To skip the Windows interconnection problem, let us assume the other PCs are using Puppy, too.

Unfinished...
The first post wasn't finished - perhaps s/he was so delighted her fingers went numb. One young Intel Regional (Asia?) executive i encountered haven't heard about Puppy yet. Maybe now he can begin thinking about making cheap Puppy boxes with 540 MB hard disks. When that happens, Mr Barry's efforts w...
