Hi Aitch, The Digihome (Vestel) T810 has an RS232 port but unfortunately that's only for uploading firmware updates to the box; frustratingly, no downloading of programmes is possible through that port. Recording to an external device is possible using the method you suggest, but of course only at 1...

The Problem

Hi Aitch, Thanks for the links - the new kernel patchset you linked to looks very promising!! Do you know exactly what it will support? And when would they become part of the Puppy kernel? The real life problem is that I'm trying to upsize the hard disk in my PVR, while retaining the existing record...

32k Blocksize Support

Has anyone had any success with incorporating Christoph Lameter's patchset to support 32k blocksize? I have an urgent requirement - upgrading my PVR from 80gb to 160gb, while keeping my existing recordings! :-)

Wishlist: 32k blocksize support

Any chance of including Christoph Lameter's patchset to support 32k blocksize in the next release of Puppy? I have an urgent need -- upgrading my PVR disk without losing all my recordings!!

Could somebody please post some instructions on how to compile the kernel and then install the modules so the new compilation will boot and run? I have puppy 3.01 installed on two partitions, one (frugal) for development and another (full) as a testbed for the new kernel, but can't get it to work......

I tried installing the latest flashplayer and the standalone player, but still can't get the fullscreen working with Seamonkey and Puppy 3.01. Does anyone have a solution to this - other than having to download the entire movie first? Reason for asking is that I have a fairly slow internet connectio...

Thanks for the link, gdemonta!

Modprobe didn't work for me but I applied the rc.modules2.gz patch posted by Dougal, rebooted, and hey presto - sound!

It's not resolved in 3.01 but the rc.modules fix worked great (after many hours searching and much hair-pulling too, akilan).

Finally, sound out of my AC97 7018 on-board chip!

:D

Thanks Dougal, you're a star.

Hi, I got a reply from Christoph Lameter saying that there are no binaries available of the patched kernel, and he recommends I don't go down this road as kernel noob unless I have lots of spare time! :-) Would any kernel junkie out there be willing to lend a hand and compile a puppy kernel (2.14 or...

Interesting article, isn't it? Who'd've thought it could be so controversial... I'd already emailed the author earlier this evening to ask for binaries/instructions (great minds think alike), so let's see what comes back. I did succeed in finding his patchset, at http://readlist.com/lists/vger.kerne...

Dunno if this helps, but the post which pointed me down this path is here: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?p=21087416#post21087416 (fourth post down, by whyzzyrd). He says: "The second partition (which I presume is mounted on /storage when the machine is booted) is ext2 with a...

Thanks for the quick response. I've tried to mount the partition with the large block size, and it tells me it can't be mounted. That's all. I've assumed that if I can't mount it, I can't copy the files so I stopped there. David

How can I configure large blocksize support on Puppy?

Arrrrrgh! Help!! I'm a complete Linux noob (tho very experienced with another o/s, no names mentioned!) and am delighted to be finally getting to grips with something which doesn't come out of Redmond. ;-) I've got Puppy running nicely on a free PC (thanks to my neighbour throwing out his old PC) in...
