Thanks. I looked at ZeroShell but it seems too much like an off-the-shelf router control panel which is something i do not want.

The second Puppy link looks interesting, i believe i'll go that route. Now all i have to do is wait for my box to arrive in the mail. :D

Puppy Linux Router?

Hello, long time no see. I've been using FREESCO as my router software for 5 years. It did a great job as router, firewall, print server and sometimes FTP, but i guess it's time to move to something a bit more complete. I found a dirt cheap Dell Optiplex 110, a slim PC which has a P3-733, onboard ev...

Minor issue and router questions - Puppy on old Siemens PC

(yes there you go another long post courtesy of yours truly) Hey all, i'm back. :D I just scored another freebie - a Siemens Scenic Pro C6. Long story short, i was to fix it for the librarian at school (i'm in my final year of highschool, yay!), and it needed a new hard drive cable, but when i arriv...

It has acpi, in fact it only works in acpi mode. And it also has the latest bios. If i'll only have brightness controls that's pretty useless, since FnFX takes care of that anyway. I need individual gamma settings for r/g/b to make it look good.

It's an oldish thin-and-light laptop (see sig). Would you expect color controls on that?

See, that's what's keeping me running 'doze. There are no other Trident drivers, and as you can see the existing ones suck even more than the windoze versions. Not to mention it has to run OpenGL in Linux, at which the chip Fails, with a capital F.

Puppy Universal Installer broken?

I tried to do a full install of Puppy on a ext2 partition, installed Grub and all, but when i try to boot into Puppy it says "kernel panic: not syncing. No init, try passing the init= parameter to kernel." On a closer look the only file copied to that partition is zdrv_400.sfs, that surely...

Found it, installed, installed OpenGL too, well, it sort of works. I didn't play that much CS anyway. :P

Not related to Wine, but is there any gamma calibration software for Puppy? On its default settings my laptop LCD looks like poop.

So where exactly do i set that? Also if i do a HDD install (i'm not too fond of save files), will it still get corrupted? Edit: Gave Wine 1.1.1 a spin. It used to run like poop last time i tested it (0.9.x), now it runs like semi-poop. An obvious improvement. :D However, unlike Vista x64 that i have...

It would help to have this "new" package in the package manager, you know? Alright, looking for it.

Wine in Puppy 4 (Solved)

First, i was pretty surprised Wine isn't available in the package manager. Second, i was even more surprised that the dotpup system was deprecated. Third, i was downright pissed to find that Wine does not work at all after installing from dotpup. wine: glibc >= 2.3 without NPTL or TLS is not a suppo...

I'm back! Updated to 9.51, and indeed, you do not need QT, it's already installed in Puppy. Also fonts seem to be prettier in this version. :)

In search for "something that works" - my Puppy 4 log

I had to pop up from time to time, didn't i? I've been running a tweaked version of Windows Me on my laptop for a few months, and i like it. The guys over at MSFN have done great things for Windows 9x, unofficial service packs, a new skinning engine which allows XP-like theming without consuming any...

Opera is great. Try it and you won't be disappointed. ;) But get the latest version (9.26) which has all the goodies like Speed Dial (quick access to up to 9 pages), a thing without i can't live anymore. :P

Skype is known to run well in Puppy, i don't use it though so i don't know myself. Heh, glad to see someone who has all his things working fine. On my laptop, what could go wrong did go wrong, and there's still stuff left to fix. I think the phone idea has been discussed before, with the conclusion ...

Here's my .asoundrc. Not that it'd matter now as it started popping again. Jeez, it worked fine last night and i only left it running to download something... Restarting the X server and even rebooting didn't help any. I hate my sound chip. I got the info off various websites. Routed everything thro...

I used the latest version (9.26 i believe) and compiled it from source. It's been more than a week already, but only today it started doing that. Actually i can write to the pupsave file if i access it via /initrd/pup_rw/ . But as i can't access it the normal way every program tries to, i'll stick t...

Well, now for the good news (finally). I spent my night tweaking at .asoundrc and managed to get rid of all the popping. Also, now things seem to run smoother, and a few games that had audio delays in Wine coupled with a boatload of sound errors showing up in the console now work perfectly with no d...

Right now i'm confronted with another problem (no space left on device even though i have over 200mb) so i can't try much. But vesa would mean zero hardware acceleration. OpenGL lags like crap but SDL and Xv fly, and if it'll take running everything on the CPU to get X to work right, then i'm wiping...
