bug: poweroff on microclient/ebox just halts (SOLVED)

Thanks guys. will try the slower speed option. I'm playing tracks of a DVD (around 3GB of tracks typically), and there is no hard-drive, just a 256MB flash ide disk on module with puppy installed (no swap file), 512MB RAM, with a 600MHz VIA processor on min-ITX motherboard. As a workaround, I was th...

stopping CD/DVD spinning down

Hi Part of an application I'm writing, running under Puppy of course, involves reading audio files off a DVD or CD and playing them. Unfortunately, I seem to get occasional pauses, which seem to be down to having to spin the media back up. I have tried the following things to no avail: - disabled po...

kinda got a solution - anyone have anything better

I have created my own script which just does the pup save part of rc.shutdown and then calls either busybox reboot OR if in xwindows calls wmpoweroff. Which is OK. But it would have been nice if there was a generic interface (i.e. script) that called be called from my application which was the same ...

initiating rebooting/shutdown from c++

Hello, I'm trying to implement rebooting and shutdown in a c++ application I'm writing. I'm fairly new to Linux so bear with me... I know that the following code fragment works under, say, Red Hat: void shutdownNow() { // some kind of code to raise program privileges to // root level maybe needed bu...

I am having problems installing puppy on a "disk on module" flash ide drive. Wonder if anyone out there can help? Set-up is with 512MB Ram, 256MB flash drive with a 600MHz Via Samuel 2 processor. Booting with Puppy Live CD and then using the Universal Installer I get the following problems...

xwin won't run after 2.12->2.14 upgrade on flash instal

Just upgraded a CF based installation (pupmode 13) of 2.12 to 2.14. Now it won't run up Xwindows. If I look at /tmp/xerrs.log it says: JWM: error: could not load the default font: -*-courier-*-r-*-*-14-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* Before saying xwindows server is closing down. So I assume the font issue is the p...

I managed to get this working by using the xorgwizard, choosing a relatively near 4:3 ratio resolution (e.g. 1400x1050) and testing it, then slecting the tweak xorg.conf (or whatever it is) option and editing the file and changing the resolution (near the end of the file) from 1400x1050 to 1680x1050...

upgrading hard drive installation of puppy

This is probably a really dumb question, but I'd like to upgrade my laptop's harddrive installation from puppy v2.12 to v2.13 (hopefully to sort out wifi problems). I have seen some discussion on upgrade a multi-session DVD installation, but non on a hard-drive installation. Can I just copy vmlinuz ...

installing modules from zdrv on puppy flash installation

I don't seem to be able to install the ftdi_sio module from zdrv on a ebox 2300 machine with flash drive installation (pupmode13?). It works fine when I do this on my development machine with a hard drive installation (pupmode2?). Here's what happens (on the PUPMODE13 machine): When I try to do a mo...

Ah, one thing: when I try and include the ftdi_sio as part of the kernel, it says it can't because of dependencies (or something) and must be a separate module. Boo! Is there away I can force it to be compiled as part of the kernel? And if not, what do I need to copy over to my target machine apart ...

Recompiling Kernel questions

Apologies for any dumb assed-ness here as I'm fairly new to Puppy (and my Linux skills aint all that). I have searched through the newsgroups and forums but I still have a couple of questions: 1. I have recompiled the kernel so that I could include the ftdi_sio module for a serial usb LCD display an...
