Conexant HSF 56k Softmodem working in Puppy
Hi, I tend to agree with vicio1. This sounds like a very good work around but is over the heads of most of us poor noobs. This modem chipset is used in a lot of laptops {like mine} so I'm sure this would be a VERY popular fix. craftybytes...If you could provide a VERY simplified walkthru and maybe i...

Want a free Netgear WG511?
Hi nic2109, Try this: Unzip the 2 files attached to this post and copy them to your Puppy root folder. They're the driver files for the WG511 Ver. 1. Go to Puppy network setup and click "load driver". Click on "load a windows driver". Direct the wizard to NETWG511.inf and WG511I...

Sharing Woes
Hi Ecomoney,
Good hints! The client IP isn't something you find..it's something you assign. Say your server IP is 198.162.0.1..then your client IP can be anything from 198.162.0.2 to 198.162.0.254. Each client you add will be the same except for the last number{192.168.0.X}.

Dialup modem
Hi Mikeymouse,
I think most USB to Serial adapters are based on the pl2303. You might try going to console and typing:
modprobe pl2303
Press enter and see if your hardware external modem works. If it does you can add a line to your rc.local file so it will load each time you boot.
Good luck!

Hi Russ, I had the same problem using ndiswrapper in console. You might try it this way. Go to Puppy network setup and click "load driver". Click on "load a windows driver". Direct the wizard to your drivers folder where the inf and sys files are located. Back at setup look for t...

Dell Truemobile 1300 USB Wireless G--Working
I'm liking Puppy more all the time! Even this wireless USB adapter turned out to be relatively easy to set up. Go to Puppy network setup and click "load driver". Click on "load a windows driver". Direct the wizard to dellnic.inf and prisma02.sys. Back at setup look for the wlan b...

Internet Connection Sharing
I tend to agree with RobertB. Probably better to stick with only one net card{2 if you have cable or DSL} and a switch or wireless router. I'm using an old netopia 802.11G wireless router set in bridge mode with Puppy. I gave $1.99 for the router at a local thrift store. I can share internet all ove...

Internet Connection Sharing
This setup also works from a XP{server} to a Puppy{client} arangement. The DNS IP address still has to be entered on the Puppy machine. I'm in Puppy now sharing with a XP machine. Same setup thru network wizard. DHCP..I dunno.. Probably easier but beyond the bounds of my very limited networking expe...

Internet Connection Sharing
Hey Ecomoney, Sorry it's taken me so long to respond. Got busy. I had to bring the laptop to the back room and wire it to my router. My laptop wireless adapter isn't puppy compatable.....yet. Anyway..Puppy to Puppy internet sharing turned out to be a peice of cake. Here's what I did: First- Set up y...

Internet Connection Sharing
Hey Ecomoney, I'm on the XP laptop now sharing internet with my Puppy machine in the back room. Worked flawlessly. I had to go to control panel..network connections..and then properties of my lan connection. Go to the Internet Protocol {TCP/IP} properties and set up ip addresses and dns manually. Ju...

Internet Connection sharing
Hey Ecomoney, One thing I forgot to mention..on the pocket pc I had to look up and enter the primary and secondary dns numbers of my ISP. I just double checked both methods and they work fine. I stumbled across an even easier way to set it up without a fire wall {like in the link I provided}. Just e...

2 ways to try
I'm able to connect to my good old zoom usb 56k connection in Puppy 2 ways. The first is by simply using the Linux-Firewall Wizard provided in Puppy 2.12. If you go thru the custom setup there's a yes/no page to enable internet sharing. The second is by following the instructions here: http://www.li...

ZOOM & ACTIONTEC EXTERNAL USB MODEMS--WORKING!!
Go easy on me. I'm very noob to linux and even newer to Puppy{1 week} but google and the Puppy forums have become my very good friends. The setups for these 2 modems work very well on my system {AMD xp1700+, 756 megs ram} running Puppy 2.12. Both work with WVDIAL only. I couldn't figure out how to w...
