Thanks for the hints ...and links ...I'll bookmark them for a later time Just getting my headphones to work was the main goal ATM... The combo of the dongle (trendnet tbw-106ub) and headphones (Sony mdr-r1bt) does work on aWin7 machine and from what I've read works fine on some version or other of &...

Thanks gcmartin I do understand the pae feature on the processor is for addressing additional ram ... my older laptop is maxed out at 2gig so the pae part "i think" is not a concern to me What Im wondering about is the fact that non pae versions of current puppies are also NOT for i686 ......

i686 non PAE (solved)

Hello All, It seems I have the oddball processor Pent M which is i686 but non PAE ... From what little I have learned about Puppy is that the newer versions built for the i686 are PAE and the non PAE version revert back to i486 ...or worse back to i386 Yes this is a somewhat old machine but its not ...

@gcmartin This implies that you have a running distro of some Operating System and that your problem is getting that Operating system to create a CD/DVD disc from a PUP ISO you downloaded, because the system is freezing when trying to run the software to create the disc from the ISO. Is this a corre...

Hello All Being an admitted MS Zombie and really only looking at Linux because XP is due to be dropped from support The first and foremost question on my mind is ... which Linux works best on MY machine I happened to get here by way of an old disc given to me with puppy 525 on it... which btw instal...

I must say from the viewpoint of a MS zombie trying to look behind the curtain the "1000 different types" is frustratingly confusing to say the least. It looks like even the 528 version has somewhat splintered into various versions ......how does one who knows almost nothing of linux choos...

Actually I think im going to redo it with 528 because it sounds like a more mature ...all the kinks worked out version and since...
