but as long as there is no package format with the metainfo feature and a download tool with the necessary function available we can only work with the currently available packages (and the current downloader parsing the wiki page). the system should finally end up like you are describing, Costal: p...

Re: deciding about youR life
There is some controversy and many Buddhist scholars contend that the Buddha did not really teach reincarnation - it was a Hindu myth. Just as it was part of early Christian doctrine and then deemed herical by "the management". i always liked the concept of reincarnation since it might gi...

ps: deshlab, not wishing to appear arrogant, but I am a bit ignorant of ways to make things more comprehensible for you. that's ok, I'll just try to fit in although I have no clue (just like discussing linux). here's some illustration for your helpful suggestions: http://img366.imageshack.us/img366...

hmm, before I had my small vacation it was the programmer's talk part of the forum that was rather incomprehensible for me. now that's spreading to the off topic stuff as well ... ps: i don't like soya milk or cow milk or beer or pig meat. i consider myself young but already feel the weight of the s...

the two things that keep causing me to boot back into winxp are connecting to my sony clie pda and the foobar2000 player (i haven't looked much into solving these issues yet - for the clie I tried following some howtos, which didn't work out; a foobar replacement hasn't surfaced yet?) for all other ...

i think i came to the conclusion that nationalism is the most ridiculous thing even before we discussed germany's nazi history in school). like, how can people feel proud about the history of their country? of course it can be inspiring to look at great things people from your country have done, but...

(first post after two weeks of involuntary puppy/forum absence) in my case the disregard of some grammar/spelling rules comes mainly from using computers, I guess. when writing non formal things like forum entries or personal emails i don't care much for correct writing, be it english or my native ...

pizzasgood, rather than waiting to come to germany one day, go out and find some veterans and listen what they say about the war. (don't believe them though, they are/were soldiers and killed people if they were told to by the people who get money to tell them so.) True thing about pizzasgood's post...

ps: I feel like spamming the thread, sorry for that.
I think it would be better to just stick to the main categories (the 'Related' on the right side), and keep things like 'ScreenSaver' a subcategory. Else, user might suddenly find: "Oh, where did that category go? Oh, and what's that other category doing in here?" I had a system of just o...

what?? you think puppy is not as famous and recognized as Nike? where have you been living  your thoughts about the need of a simplified (and vectorized=resizable) logo are right - and to continue the puppy-nike comparison: Once there is a stylish, yet true-to-the-puppy logo - we can have puppy...

thanks rarsa (at least for the part that belongs in this topic  - maybe my idea to discuss things separately is doomed to die anyway) There are already a standard app categories and a standard way of organizing them in a flexible way: http://standards.freedesktop.org/menu-spec/latest/apa.html ...

on second thought:  People, let's please try to return this thread to the topic (I'll rename it to make this more clear). At the moment we are tackling multiple (related) topics here, and much of what was said here should be elseshwere: the topic of this thread is the category system that the...

it may be simpler to just include the necessary metainfo within each package file. I wouldn't know whether metainfo inside the pupget itself could be extracted via the repository tool and displayed before download. If that is possible, that would be nice for reducing the amount of files on the serv...

I was just thinking... Another thing to consider would be how to decide what goes into the repository? Will the new dotpups first be vetted in the forum, or will they be just dumped in with the rest? I guess smaller files can still be releases at the forum at first, larger files already have to be ...
