thanks a million

I've been trying to fix this for ages.
I'm using Precise Puppy simply because all newer versions of puppy are S L O W on everything on my ACER Aspire One netbook.
Now I have sound on Firefox.
Thanks a million

18.05=upupbb. I'd quite like to know why, even if I use the network wizard and specify a static that it keeps coming back DHCP. Necessity is the Mother...(see the script later on.) As for doing this in the router --- I don't want to and shouldn't have to if there are tools available directly in Pupp...

Static IP address has to be re-entered after every boot

This concerns 18.05 HD install frugal

I'm using net-setup.sh (network wizard) as I need a static IP address. After every reboot I always end up with a dhcp attributed address.
Any ideas ????

Thanks

upupbb usb stick problems

I'm running 18.06 from USB and HD/Frugal. When trying to create a new 18.06 flash drive using GBootflash usb installer I go through all the normal steps until I get to the actual install. It then fails saying that it can't mount the usb stick. I tried to use Universal installer. It reports that the ...

Imagemagick package problems

I've used imagemagick for so many years that I cannot live without it. Being able to manipulate photos quickly from the CLI has become a necessity. I've recently moved to puppy 18.05 and after installing imagemagick from PPM the command line "convert" yields: convert: command not found... ...

what kind of problems???.. I was trying to use LHMP-8.0-5.3.4-5.3.10.pet which would not start mysql/mariaDB as user "nobody" and, concerning hiawath, kept showing 503 errors when trying to access php... After hours of tweaking and hacking and installing other packages for other things I ...

Yes, I guess I overlooked frugal installs. I can su to the aforementioned users with the frugal install. The curious in me still wants to know what gives with the full install but seeing as how frugal works I'll use it. I'm still having issues with Hiawatha and mysql but I should be able to debug th...

Yes, this is really a full install. The reason I did a full install was because I've always, in the past 8 years, over several versions, done it that way and never had any problems. My understanding of frugal is that it is for windows users that don't want to partition their hard drive. I don't use ...

Thanks the files /etc/passwd, /etc/shadow and /etc/group are identical between the live USB boot and the install (sda1 in my case). 18.05 - strange user behavior after hd install

Hello One of the first things one notices about puppy is that one is normally always root. There are a number of other users that have specific purposes and one of them is "webuser" who runs hiawatha having his home directory as /root/Web-Server. Another is "nobody" who, amongst ...

Hiawatha doesn't work from a Puppy 18.05 hard disk install

Hiawatha is installed by default in (at least) puppy 18.05. If puppy is booted from a usb drive and Hiawatha started, then, when accessing it from a browser via 127.0.0.1 it works. If puppy 18.05 is installed to the hard disk then it produces 403 - Forbidden. I've tried everything I can think of but...

LHMP or LAMP on 18.05

Hello I've been using puppy for many, many years and have recently upgraded from precise_5.7.1 to 18.05. The LHMP pet in precise was very useful for setting up and testing webpages before committing them to a regular server on the web. I just can't get the pet packages I've used in the past (LHMP-7....

To make a long story short psync ends up by calling :
ntpdate europe.pool.ntp.org

Now, I don't know how europe.pool.ntp.org is controlled but by running ntpdate europe.pool.ntp.org I see some of the funniest names (eg. mafia.org). Is anyone aware of security risks associated with ntp?

What is all this ntp traffic at startup? (Solved)

Hello

I'm running tcpdump on a separate server watching traffic on an installed-to-hd puppy (Precise Puppy version 5.6).
When this puppy starts up there is a flood of ntp requests to strange and dubious sounding sites.

Does anyone have any what is going on?

thanks
