QUESTION: Modifying file contents

#31 Post by Don604 »

In looking around, I see that in ../sys/class/power_supply/BAT0 there are the files that constitute the configuration for the battery. It looks like all files in there are READ only, and so I'm wondering:

- what is writing into those files?
- can I override the permissions and write in my own values?
- is there an easy way to display on the desktop (every 5 minutes) the contents of "voltage_now"?

I'm thinking these files are on the SDcard image, and not really modifiable unless one remasters the image. It is just that my battery is 10400maH and the system thinks it is 5200maH, resulting in odd things happening.

Thanks, Don

Does Puppybang use window compositor? I've tried to start one, only to be warned one is already running. Yet my xfce4 panel & re-worked conky setup (a simple free form text config) are not showing the effects of a window compositor at all.

Hi puppylinuxworld,
really enjoying your PupBang version of Tahrpup, thanks :) I have it frugally installed on an ext3 partition, using a savefolder and have about 1G space remaining, checked with partview and gparted. But I get this irritating error in PPM, below. I can't update the servicepack 6.0.3 via PPM, but it seems to be a pup_event problem (e.g. http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 305#826305).Are you aware of the problem, does anyone know of a workaround? I'm using a Lenovo T60 laptop with 4Gb Ram, and most 32- and 64-bit pupplets work fine on it, but I am having problems with Tahr-based pupplets :(

Due to Libre office, i think.

#37 Post by Pelo »

I took a glance at archives.org and PuppyBang Linux drew my attention. But 754MB is too much.
Due to Libre office, i think.
Typist have Libre office stored somewhere in their computer, no need to include it in a distro, in my opinion.
This big kit of apps can be loaded as SFS, if needed. Better, run it with your windows O.S, to make it earns its life from time to time...
Could you make the ISO lighter, please, with a version goffice (abiword, Gnumeric) , because i'am not a typewriter, only once a year, perharps less.
But i'am interested by graphic tools, as my summer holidays just finished, and i got a lot of pictures and movies to be edited for Christmas

PuppyBang downloaded for test.

Video is only one picture and i don't understan what you say. Nevertheless, PuppyBang downloaded for test. I will trim the fat erasing Libre Office (available as SFS when needed)

I really enjoy PuppyBang !

#39 Post by hamoudoudou »

After one hour checking PuppyBang, i really enjoy it !
PuppyBang Linux 6.0.3 was done for me, wasn'it ?
I created a repository in my hard disk where i transfered Opt files
(withdrawned from the ISO)
I start a pupsave, Then copy in the pupsave palemoon for instance...
In other pupsave i could copy google and wine.

In third one, Libre Office... But it has been a long time that Libre Office is installed in my Windows system, for heavy works for... my wife. Accounting and typewriting are not my cup of tea,, and not the one of my Puppy.

Pelo - are you saying that puppylinuxworld has abandoned the distro or merely taken a break for the Summer?

Our CS-major 20 year old may be interested in trying this - if there will be continuing Forum/developer support.

He's into anime and gaming and this might draw him back to Linux - Puppy in particular.

Thanks - David

Keep PuppyBang alive !

#44 Post by Pelo »

Perhaps the captain is on holidays, far from linux problems and bugs. So we will wait for automnal rains, and if he won't return from the beach some Linux experts will Keep Puppybang alive, perhaps for a casting outside, on Facebook or distrowatch (no!) , or in hungarian puppy catalogue. Or in francophone puppy live show this winter , 15th december.
I will advise When PuppyBang is described by hungarian Facebook here That should not be long. They are friends of mine.

Pyppybang kernel 3.14.20 should be perfect outside

#45 Post by Pelo »

Summer afternoons are back, or will be soon.. PuppyBang Linux 6.0.3 has a kernel 3.14.20 which would be perfect to drive outdoor this Puppy to surf the web, in a public square
First try with a Driver compiled by our famous (and only ?) provider : rcrsn51
PuppyBang Linux 6.0.3 has a nice desktop, the cat is black ! Default theme is black, too black. I can't see what i type in the black coloured cells. Murrine-bluebird is much better.
It would be nice that our users whose hobby is to build puppies compile some kernels for wireless on laptops. Laptops are bought to move.
Nevertheless, this Puplette is really wonderful, Ah hungarians, Europe is glad to have experts as you..
Isn't she goergeous ? Yes she is :P

#46 Post by Pelo »

Once upon a time, puppylinuxworld arrived unknow in our forum, delivered his Puppy Bang, and got back in his world. I will try to join him with facebook and s-kami help, to congratulated him. Testers are not awful trolls who ennoy devs. Not always. This just only speak in a normal way, about Wifi, but about summer too.

Because of the cat ?

#47 Post by Pelo »

pas de chance avec cette Puppy ! Le cat devra rester à chasser les souris au grenier. Pet for Realtek 8192CU does not work ! It's the first time i am unlucky . Because of the cat ? Something wrong with 3.14.20, with Pupjibaro too, and x-thar.

Maybe they were built with the nonPAE version of Tahr 602? So the 8192cu PET would not be compatible.
