Parole media player for XFCE

#161 Post by Pelo »

Parole media player for XFCE : does somebody tested it with x-tahr ?
What XFCE applications have been launched successfully By X-tahr passengers ?
downloading. X-tahr
Our team fails to run newer versions with x-slacko, last version working well is 0.2.0.6 is dated 2011.
Sure we can use other media-players, but our challenge is Parole.
Griffith needs python to manage all your video, yours our downloaded from the web. If would be complete if you download it from Carolina PPM

I'm having some GVFS problems, the gvfs daemons won't run at first boot (pupmode=5) unless I open thunar first or make a save and reboot. Been playing with this since yesterday, not sure what the problem is. :( :x

Any luck with the GVFS problem...?

Also: just curious, what *is* GVFS and what does it do?

It's a virtual file system, thunar needs it for trash, browsing networks etc....

Ya, I just fixed it, turns out it was a missing libudev symlink in /usr/lib. :D

It was a simple fix, but finding it was a nightmare. Anyway, I'm building again.

I should be releasing X-Tahr-2.0 in the next few days. I'm going with v2.0 as 1b3 was good enough for release and this is built from scratch using tahrpup-6.0.5. Preview screeny below :D

Nice :D

One little nitpick: the eject icon next to the drives in Thunar gets to stick around, right...?

The eject icons are there, just wish I knew how to add/remove them.

Downloaded, md5sum checked, manual frugal install to core 2 duo all intel laptop.

video-info-glx 1.5.1 Sat 20 Aug 2016 on X-Tahr 2.0 Linux 3.14.56 i686
2.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07)
oem: Intel(r)Cantiga Graphics Chip Accelerated VGA BIOS
product: Intel(r)Cantiga Graphics Controller Hardware Version 0.0

X Server: Xorg Driver: intel
X.Org version: 1.15.1
dimensions: 1280x800 pixels (338x211 millimeters)
depth of root window: 24 planes

direct rendering: Yes
server glx vendor string: SGI
server glx version string: 1.4
OpenGL vendor string: Intel Open Source Technology Center
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI Mobile Intel® GM45 Express Chipset x86/MMX/SSE2
OpenGL version string: 2.1 Mesa 10.1.3

Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P8600 @ 2.40GHz
Core 0: @800 1: @800 MHz

No problems so far. Wifi (iwlwifi series 5000 chip) connection normal under frisbee, then switched it to PWF 4.1 to check as I use that for its dropoutless behavior particularly on the Pentium Ms.

One question. In the /usr/share/fonts directory there is as in previous versions a default directory with truetype and ttf directories in it and now a truetype directory and a ttf symlink directly under fonts. The Dejavu fonts are both in the ttf dir under default and in a Dejavu dir in the truetype dir directly under fonts. The Droid sans mono is in the truetype dir under defaults. I'm just trying to understand the current scheme so I can correctly add a font or two. Any guidance?

Not much else so far. I've used VLC a bit and added an mplayer from pet for simplegtkradio (it's hardcoded in the v0.1.16 I like and the path of least resistance is just to add it). Sound and video are both fine. FPS in glxgears is 1430 with this kernel and driver combo, not best of class but a good solid second place on this laptop.

Edit to add: Forgot to mention the Light browser. Put in the symlink to my external profile and it's good to go & configured for me (I use it in LxPupSc also). I'm getting to quite like it.

Cheers,

Pups currently in kennel :D Older LxPupSc and X-slacko-4.4 for my users; LxPupSc, LxPupSc64 and upupEF for me. All good pups indeed, and all running savefiles for look'n'feel only. Browsers, etc. solely from SFS.

Fantastic so far. Just playing with my typical aesthetic tweaks on this old Dell Optiplex GX380 - video, sound perfect OOTB. Frisbee connected perfectly to my WiFi USB dongle (NetGear, Inc. WNA1100 Wireless-N 150 (Atheros AR9271) ). Enjoying the Light browser. So far, so good...

(edit to add) - Installed some Xfce goodies and GIMP from the PPM, Flash from the GetFlash utility - all working well. Light browser is installing all of my preferred add-ons without issue. Overall things are very smooth and fast (still running live from CD, no savefile yet). 8)

Thanks for testing as always Marv.

Not sure about the fonts dir, thats how it was in tahrpup. I'm putting fonts in /usr/share/fonts/default/TTF/ and have had no probs.
