How to use HP970Cxi printer in Tahr Puppy 6.03?

#1 Post by boxclever »

I have the 6.3 version of pup Linux.
My computer has been configured as stated in the printer info.
I can get it to preview print and all that. The hlip file 3.15 downloaded.
Still no printing. hplip_print-3.13.xpet brings the 3.15 run file.
My question is the driver file is in my downloads, so where do I go from here to get the driver in? I am so near yet so far away.
Thank you.
The printer is HP970Cxi.

I presume you're talking about Tahrpup 6.03, yes? I run it myself (see my sig).

Just click on the item in your Downloads folder; Puppy's Package Manager will ask you if you want to install the item in question. Just follow the instructions. Quite simple.

Printers can be an absolute pain in the a*** to install in Linux. Or, they can be as easy as doing it in Windows. Depends on the model.

You do understand about installing the printer via the CUPS browser interface, yes?

Mike.

Hi there Mr Mike Walsh, just seen your post today.
Installation of my hpdeskjet970Cxi is causing me some problems.
Puppy 6.3.
My printer is not wireless connection its by parallel socket LPT1.
This is shared by WINDOWS XP on my C partition.
Puppy 6.3 on D drive as dual boot.
My problems being what is my URI ? and what are the correct answers to fill the the fields.
I can get it to confirm the default set up ok.
When I select do test print, cannot locate printer comes up.
The driver is from the Gutenprint selection.
I have also tried the HP 3.15 too.
Pleased to have any suggestions to help me. They can be a pain I agree.
THANKS ...... boxclever.

hi boxclever,

a kernel module was accidentally left out of tahrpup, but if you give me some precise info i could build it for you

is it 6.0 or 6.0.2? look where puppy is installed and check the name of the puppy.sfs for the version

is it the default 3.14.20 kernel? type uname -r into a terminal

is it PAE or noPAE? use menu>>system>>Pup-sysinfo then on the sys-specs tab click on kernel
