PET processing capability: ask a installing PATH direction?
@Mavrothal, and others have delivered a fabulous direction in PPM2 as it advances PPM ability to add/control/delete elements to a PUP distro. It is here.
Package Management has come a long way especially with the latest intelligence added to PPM processing which proves very very straight and helpful. The new features are most welcomed and it has removed the need for a user to know when to restart while adding visual elements making things very obvious to the user.
One aspect that comes to mind is PET processing and adding subsystem elements to any PUP system: A simple install to the system versus some additional item that could be very useful in PUP understanding and use; namely "Where do you want this installed?"
The reason for this is primarily evident for Live/Frugal users because much/most of what they do is in system filesystem which exist in RAM versus auxiliary permanent devices. (This is NOT the case on Full Installs of PUP distros)
The primary need for this kind of preprocessing of a subsystem's installation is for installations of browsers, JAVA, etc where any installation would be in system's RAM filesystem, normally. Thus, if there was some sort of an "Advanced"installation or selection button for a given package, it would allow some users to direct an installation to outside of the Puppy system's filesystem so as not to impact the filesystem's overall size with mere "links" in the filesystem.
Is there any element in PET processing where this kind of thing is prudent? Or better, is this prudent? _________________ Get ACTIVE Create Circles; Do those good things which benefit people's needs!
