get xorgwizard error on 5.2.8

Hi. I installed lucid Puppy 5.2.8 to the hard drive on a Dell Latitude D600 laptop.
It worked fine a few boots and now it gives me a scrolling error message with about 20 lines repeated. The purple line says :
If X failed to start, type "xorgwizard" to setup X
How do I stop the scrolling so I can type xorgwizard?
I've tried ctrl-c, ctrl-F1 to ctrl-F12. Nothing stops the scrolling except ctrl-alt-del and that reboots. I can run puppy off the flash drive and it works fine. I tried reinstalling it several times but now every time I try to run from the hard drive, on bootup I get the xorgwizard error.
I installed Tahrpup 6.0 but that is too slow to view youtube videos. 5.2.8 runs fast enough to view youtube videos - this may have something to do with the different versions of Chromium.
I am not comfortable running off the flash drive because it's only a matter of time before I break off the flashdrive moving the laptop around.
