In VLC and SMPlayer one can easily increase the volume above 100%. However, one cannot do so by default when using the main system volume (Pulseaudio) in Tahrpup 6.x. That seems ridiculous, utterly ridiculous.

You should be able to achieve that goal with an alsa based system along the lines of alsaequal, rather than polluting your system with pulseaudio. That's if just using players with software volume controls (which are sometimes options turned off by default) doesn't get you there...
