Thanks

I don't understand how to update the flash. Is this done from the package manager or from the adobe site? I've tried both and can't make head nor tails of it.

I was looking for the source gtkdialog 0.8.4 and I found that it can be found in ibiblio.com

... but to my surprise I found that Barry has a compiled version available
at ibiblio as well. For some reason he didn't include
gtkdialog-0.8.4-r514-x86_64.pet in april 64.

http://ftp.nluug.nl/ibiblio/distributio ... es-common/

Ok, thanks but don't works... .pet broken (for me)
Yet, I re-packed gtkdialog and now from terminal all works :D

Code: Select all

# gtkdialog --version
gtkdialog version 0.8.4 r514 (C) 2003-2007 Laszlo Pere, 2011-2012 Thunor
Built with support for: GTK+ 2, Glade, VTE.
Please, test needed..
Later I try in a Quirky clean and install pMusic 4.6
To achieve this, you must install the following packages:
ibpng16-16_1.6.16-1_amd64.pet
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bz9e78 ... sp=sharing
vte2-0.28.2-6.ram0.98.x86_64.pet

Aha! I figured out the Flash! The newer version wasn't working with the April32 I have installed on USB stick. Installed an older one and it is working perfectly.

Yes, I have had sound problems with YouTube before. Chances are real good that it's only temporary and has nothing to do with Quirky. YouTube does that sometimes. It's almost always on their end when the sound goes out and I just have to wait for it to return. Once, it was my fault, as I accidentally hit the mute button on YouTube and all went silent and I did not know why. After a brief investigation, I found I just flubbed it and muted the sound. So be sure you haven't just muted the sound by accident.

I was able to get my usb stick to boot with a simple entry in grub's menu.lst

Code: Select all

title Boot from sdc (Lexar USB Flash Drive )
  map (hd2) (hd0)
  map (hd0) (hd2)
  map --hook
  chainloader (hd0)+1

This will find the small fat partition on the stick which I believe is (hd2)
Note I have two hard disks so the USB stick is (hd2)
2 is used rather than 3 because counting of disks starts from 0

Hello @Billtoo. I like the system monitor you install on the desktop of all of your presentations. It would be nice if this was a Menu item in all PUPs, OOTB.

@BarryK has several install procedures: which did you use to generate the bootable SDcard?

Thanks in advance

I downloaded april64-7.0.4.1.usfs.xz and installquirky.amd64 from here:

http://distro.ibiblio.org/quirky/quirky ... ril-7.0.4/

I followed the instructions for installquirky.amd64:
# chmod 755 installquirky.amd64
Copied the 2 files to a hold directory and opened a terminal there and
ran the installation script:

./installquirky.amd64

answered the prompts
chose ext4 (second best choice for flash)

I ran the installer from my 64bit Mint-17.2 install.

Worked fine for me.

Hi don570,

No, my laptop bios boot order is set to boot from the SD card.
On my desktop I hit F12 to bring up the bios boot menu.

devx merged into main f.s.

"I have modified my Quirky build system, also known as woofQ, to optionally merge the 'devx' into the main filesystem.
That is, there will no longer be a devx PET as all of the files needed for compiling, git, svn, etc., are already in the main build of Quirky. "

Shouldn't it be kept separate for better security in case you get rooted or exploited so nothing can be complied???

I think Barry is referring to his development version builds.

It's good for me since I found installing the quirky devx package difficult.
It took me around 15 minutes before I would get the install message.
Maybe it took so long because I installed on USB stick.

Apparently Barry is also moving over to Ubuntu..........

So i wonder if this along with the Devx is to move over to Ubuntu easy install DEB files?

Maybe an idea would be to include Devx as standard but be able to disable it in the options panel.

Why is that apparent? And what does that mean for Quirky?

My bad , i misread and missed the comma

"Now that I am building Quirky Werewolf"

as

"Now that I am building Quirky Werewolf from Ubuntu"

I blame late night and skim reading. :)
