@Pavan assuming you have installed the 700 iso and it is working for you, you can install the update - and most other packages - from the Fatdog repository. You don't need a link - though you could use one but it's more difficult. You need to run the package manager, gslapt, in FatDog. Open Menu/Setup/Gslap. Click update to refresh the list of packages. Search the package name. Click. Install.

Before you do: read again Jamesbond's cautionary notes about this package. If you feel you don't understand the implications, feel free to ask questions on this thread before you take the plunge.

Fatdog is a bit "different", but not "so" different. It's well-worth the learning effort, I think. When I started using it, I didn't understand the power of its "control panel", I was too used to reach for the system menu. If you haven't yet done so, explore Fatdog control panel, every aspect of it, and you'll get a good picture.

Another very interesting - but more advanced - exploration can be done in a terminal. Open terminal, type fatdog- and press TAB twice, you'll get a list of backend scripts that Fatdog uses for some of its functions.

@jamesbond - thanks for taking the time to package an update script. I haven't yet updated from 700b2 to 700; I kept hesitating due to lack of time and the seemingly growing list of issues in this thread. I take the availability of an update package as an encouragement to move on to 700.

@L18L, @step thank you for the kind words.

@dbabits: I cannot reproduce the issue with net-setup. I tested net-setup.sh like this:
a) disable wpa-gui
b) start net-setup, choose configure IP address and choose dhcp;
c) configure access profile and create a new one;
d) and then reboot;
e) after reboot I've got my wireless connected.

Bluetooth File Sharing does not work

#303 Post by lugathe »

Hello, I am new to the linux world but in Bluetooth when I try to connect a paired device (send or receive files) it shows:
"Cannot start "Personal File Sharing preferences [...]" when I click on Receive Files.
and shows: "Unable to find service record" when I try to send files...

Besides this I like too much this system.

Please help-me with this.

Hello lugathe,

Welcome. The bluetooth send/receive functions don't work in 700, this is a known problem. It will work in the next release.

Just a teaser
needs some testing on fresh install.

(actual locale on top of list)
Just OK has the same effect as Cancel: no change :lol:

This is the same setup that I have, and it does not reconnect upon reboot.
I must run "Activate settings now".
One possible twist: I have it connecting to my mobile hotspot.
But I don't think this makes a difference - hotspot is the DHCP.
When I go to "Activate access profile" in net-setup, the name of my hotspot shows, so it persists. It just that it does not auto-reconnect .

P.S. I can't understand how the same thread can be used for different issues. It's only by accident that I noticed your reply to my question somewhere [by now] in the middle of the thread.
Should we move toward topic="Fatdog64-700" and 1 thread per issue?

So back to brown nosing , blowing smoke up people's asses and waxing egos rather than fixing it and putting out a working Final release , but instead patching it as buggy as a Beta.

Fatdog 700 is like a Race horse that can't be arsed to cross the finish line.

@dbabits:
Can you provide me with this information, right after boot process? Run these from terminal:
1. content of /dev/initrd.err
2. cat /proc/$(pidof wpa_supplicant)/cmdline
3. wpa_cli status
4. ls /sys/class/net
Mask out any information you don't want to share.

No, sorry, kirk and I only have bandwidth to monitor one thread - this one. You are of course free to post in other threads, and if we (or other Fatdog users) happen to see them you will get replies there too, but it is less likely.

This thread is confusing the crap out of me.

What is the latest ISO ?

Does the re-master work ?

Does Sound work and save it's settings ?

Apart from FireFox and Flashplayer what needs to be updated before re-mastering ?

Can the Fatdog remaster tool be used separately on other Linix live images if they are loaded into ram , or is it for fatdog only?

Thanks

It's for Fatdog only. It requires the directories be set in a certain way that is only true when you're running Fatdog.

Fatdog64-700 FINAL [Feb 22 2015]

#314 Post by Billtoo »

I moved my SDHC card installation over to my macmini.
I needed to re-configure the wireless setup, and adjust the screen
layout.

Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4331 802.11a/b/g/n (rev 02)
VGA compatible controller:
Intel Corporation 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller (rev 09)

It's working well.

I finally had to print something with Fatdog64 version 700. I really do not print a lot. I looked for the hplip_print and hplip_scan packages. They are not available in the repositories. Previously, rcrsn51 made two pet packages for Fatdog64 version 631, which work great.

If the rcrsn51 pet packages contents are applicable to Fatdog64 version 700, then I will extract the files from the pet packages and make version 700 packages. Thank you in advance for any information or help on this.

sit quick-locale-switcher

#316 Post by L18L »

Running for non-root users, too
Though these underpriviledged cannot load_sfs nls.

Have fun

--------------------------

EDIT
my fix for the not load of nls (successfully tested):
My fd64_nls.sfs is on /mnt/home

Append

Code: Select all

#f=$XDG_CONFIG_DIR/Startup/nls; [ -f $f ] && . $f #load nls.sfs
[ -d /usr/share/locale/fr ] && exit 0 # nls.sfs loaded already

. /etc/BOOTSTATE
SFS=fd64-nls_700.sfs # no automatic here to find this file name ?

if [ -f ${SAVE_DEV_MOUNT}/${SFS} ]; then
  load_sfs.sh --load $SAVE_DEV_MOUNT/$SFS
else
  [ "$DISPLAY" ] && Xdialog --title "Native Language Support" --infobox "If you had copied \
  or moved \n\n ${SFS} \n into ${SAVE_DEV_MOUNT} (${SAVEFILE_DEVICE}) \n
  \nthen NLS would have automatically been loaded" 0 0 30000 || \
  dialog --title "Native Language Support" --infobox "If you had copied \
  or moved \n\n ${SFS} \n into ${SAVE_DEV_MOUNT} (${SAVEFILE_DEVICE}) \n
  \nthen NLS would have automatically been loaded" 0 0
fi
exit 0
to /etc/rc.d/rc.local.

If we get a Fatdog locale manager named "sit", will there be an essential update manager named "heel"?

Hello! I am not one of the experts, but I have converted 600 vintage Samsung pets by rcrsn51 to 700 format and it worked fine for me...
Hope this helps!

fadog sit

prehistoric wrote:If we get a Fatdog locale manager named "sit", will there be an essential update manager named "heel"?
Why not? But it is not on my TODO list, so to "speak".

Sorry,
sit is technosaurus' simple icon tray.

Fatdog's locale manager is fatdog-choose-locale.sh and
Fatdog on heels was not available as graphic.
A real locale manager would also have the ability to purge locales.
Stuff for Fatdog64-999.

Thanks for your feedback, prehistoric, you gave me the idea that
a link to fatdog-choose-locale.sh would be much nicer than just text "... can add a locale ...",
so this "sit" could become a locale manager in the end. :D
