So, uh, what happened with this thread here? --> http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=97434

Sorry to be a little rcrsn51-ish here -- but I've come to appreciate his point on this one. It's just good practice to wrap up old issues before bringing up new ones.

Probably... best way to find out, is this --

Open Dougal's Network Wizard (Internet Connection Wizard -> Wired/Wireless LAN -> Network Wizard [not SNS or Frisbee]). Within there, if your card is not automatically recognized, click Load Module at the bottom and peruse the list. Sometimes cards are not detected even though they should be.

If it's not in that list, it's not in your Pup.

boof, you're an experienced forum member - you should know we need the device ID -

Code: Select all

Rejoice! Precise 5.7.1 retro works. I had to change my wifi card, but it works.

Removed wlan card has following ID written on it, according to my poor aided sight:

SPSN 709948-005

HM88E00-4V0

USB1163-00

HP-PN 709606-001

I believe it is an RTL8179 device, sharing the same driver as RTL8188EE

It's an involved process to reinstall it in an R series HP machine, so I'm reluctant atm.

The wifi doesn't connect, because there's not a driver for my ZTE phone? It's a Blade 2. I've no idea which driver I need. but it works in precise 5.7.1retro.

Those numbers give only limited results with Google. Not really helpful.

Interesting. The title of this post is "rlt8719 driver for slacko 5,7". So are we to believe that your wifi device is "RLT8719" or "RTL8179"? It's really hard to provide accurate help when the supplied information is inaccurate, or contradictory.

I must say I consider it really rash and poor decision on your part to remove that wifi device in the first place. You asked for advice on Fri 13 Feb 2015 at 03:51. I replied on 13 Feb 2015 at 05:15, less than 90 minutes later, asking for the standard information we always request when dealing with device/driver issues - which involed a single, simple command to determine your device ID. If you had done so, there's a fair chance I could have pointed you to a suitable driver.

I know a bit about Linux tethering to Android devices, but frankly, I'm disinclined to bother. There's a good chance my information will be ignored, and/or the issue left unreported/unresolved.

SORTED

#11 Post by boof »

thanks all-I've sorted it. I've downloaded the pae version, which has iwlwifi which works. I now have my pc as oem, with the rtl8179 and operational. My only dislike is that I can't convert libreoffice 4.1.x.sfs to sfs version 4.. My sfs coverter won't oblige. I've prob wasted 20% of my quota trying to get it and make it work.. I had a bad SIM so it had poor performance.
